Navy Begins Keystone State Trek Wednesday at Lehigh

Jan. 12, 2010

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's basketball team will make the first of two trips this week to Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley when the Mids play Wednesday night at Lehigh. The game is slated to tip at 7 p.m. in Bethlehem's Stabler Arena.

An audio and video stream of the game will be available to Navy All-Access subscribers.

Navy successfully opened its Patriot League campaign last week with a 70-40 victory over Bucknell in Alumni Hall, a win that also improved Navy's record on the season to 9-7. The Mids went on a 14-0 run midway through the first half to take control of the game and led by double figures over the final 31 minutes of the game. Navy shot over 50 percent from the field in both halves while limiting Bucknell to a field goal percentage of 31.5 percent for the game.

Pacing the Mids in scoring against the Bison was Kristin Bowen (Sr., Monroeville, N.J.), who tied a career high with 17 points while dishing out a career-best five assists in the game. She was one of four Mids to reach double figures in points.

Lehigh won the 2009 Patriot League title, was tabbed as the pre-season favorite to win the 2010 crown and entered conference play having posted a league-best record of 13-2 against non-league foes this season. However, the Mountain Hawks opened their Patriot League campaign last week with a 69-65 overtime loss to American in Washington, D.C.

Lehigh has won four consecutive games against Navy to take a 21-20 lead in the all-time series between the two programs. The Mountain Hawks have posted a 19-17 record against the Mids in Patriot League regular season games and hold a 12-9 lead over Navy in games played in Bethlehem.

The Mountain Hawks won both of the meetings with the Mids last season, winning 66-63 in overtime in Alumni Hall and by the score of 66-48 in Bethlehem.

Six of the last nine games played in the series have been determined by seven points or less. Navy had won five consecutive games from Lehigh prior to the Mountain Hawks beginning their current run of four straight victories.

The Mids will return to the area this weekend when Navy takes on Lafayette Saturday at 1 p.m.
