ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The final game of a three-game homestand for the Navy women's basketball team will be contested Wednesday night when the Midshipmen play host to American in a 7 p.m. game in Alumni Hall.

Navy enters the game having won the first two games of its current homestand and four consecutive home games overall. The Mids raised their league record to 3-2 on the year with wins last week over Holy Cross (75-60) and Army (64-53). In the latter game against the Black Knights, the Mids found themselves trailing 27-12 with five minutes remaining in the first half. A three-point field goal from Beth Reed (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.) started what would prove to be a 39-8 run for Navy as the Mids built a 51-35 lead with eight minutes left to play in the game.
Army would slice the margin down to singe digits at 51-42, but Navy answered by scoring the ensuing six points of the game to take a 57-42 lead with just four minutes left to play.
Angela Myers (Jr., San Antonio, Texas), who dished out 11 assists in Navy's victory over Holy Cross, led the Mids against Army with 16 points and six assists. Kristin Bowen (Sr., Monroeville, N.J.) connected on 4-of-5 three-point field goal attempts on her way to scoring 14 points for the Mids against the Black Knights, while K.C. Gordon (Sr., Vienna, Va.) notched the first double-double of her career with 11 points and a career-high 10 boards in the Navy win.
American makes the short drive to Annapolis having won each of its last six games to improve its record on he year to 12-7. The Eagles also sit atop the Patriot League standings with a 5-0 record in league play. Each of their last four wins have been by double figures.
The tandem of Michelle Kirk and Liz Leer are averaging half of American's points per game during the league season. Kirk is pouring in an average of 22.6 points per game, while Leer is averaging 12.0 points per game.
American holds an 18-14 lead in the all-time series with Navy, but the two teams have evenly split the 16 Patriot League meetings that have been contested between the programs. The Mids are 10-6 against the Eagles in games played on The Yard and hold a 6-2 advantage in league regular season games played in Alumni Hall.
Navy won both of the meetings between the squads last year, winning by scores of 68-61 in Washington, D.C., and 59-56 in Annapolis.
Following Wednesday's game, Navy will conclude the first half of the Patriot League season Saturday when the Mids travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to face Colgate.
