FAIRFAX, Va. - Jess Palacio (So., Sun Valley, Nev.), Amanda Phelps (So., Oceanside, Calif.) and Kristin Smith (Fr., Harleysville, Pa.) each produced individual event victories to highlight the Navy women's track team's efforts at the Patriot Games on the campus of George Mason University.
Palacio won the 800 in a season-best showing of 2:15.41, Phelps earned her first victory of the winter with a toss of 52'2" (15.90 meters) in the 20-lb. weight throw, while Smith took home top honors in the high jump with a successful 5'5" clearance (1.65 meters).
Palacio's time ranks as the fastest among Patriot League runners this season. Meanwhile,
Smith, who already owns the No. 2 spot on Navy's all-time indoor high jump ledger, has now won the high jump in each of her first four collegiate meets.
Other highlights included Abby Gesecki (Sr., Nanticoke, Pa.) and Mansfield Murph (So., Mechanicsville, Va.) finishing 2-3 in the 500-meter run. Gesecki turned in a time of 1:17.28, while Murph crossed the finish line in 1:17.72. Their times respectively rank as the second- and third-fastest in the Patriot League this season.
Navy will put its perfect 9-0 record on the line next Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House when it hosts archrival Army. The Mids have won each of the last four indoor Star Meets.
