LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The No. 18-ranked Navy water polo team scored the game's first five goals and never looked back in a 9-4 victory over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon in Lewisburg, Pa.
The victory improves Navy's record to 17-5 overall and 4-1 in the CWPA Southern Division. The win sets up a showdown tonight with Princeton, who is unbeaten in the CWPA Southern Division.
Navy took control right from the outset, outscoring the Bison, 4-0, in the first quarter and taking a 5-0 advantage before the Bison tallied their first goal in the second stanza. Bucknell would cut the lead to 5-2, but Darren McKay tallied a big goal right at the halftime buzzer to push the lead to 6-2 at the halftime break.
Navy led 8-3 after three quarters before coasting in for the 9-4 victory.
Kyle Wertz led Navy with four goals. Stevie Ray added two goals for the Navy offensive attack.
The Mids will battle 17th-ranked Princeton tonight at 7:30 pm in Princeton, N.J.
