BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – The Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference announced its weekly awards and a pair of Navy student-athletes received honors. Junior attacker
Kiefer Black was named Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman center
Jack Reif claimed Rookie of the Week.
The duo helped lead Navy to a 4-2 record at the Navy Open over the weekend, notching victories over Mount St. Mary's (W, 20-7), Wheaton College (W, 21-5), MIT (W, 25-9), and Penn State Behrend (W, 18-8), while dropping games to #10 Princeton (L, 18-8) and Salem (L, 17-13).
Black led the Midshipmen with a team-high 25 points on a team-best 17 goals; while adding a team-high eight assists and notching three hat tricks in four total games played. The junior opened the weekend with a team-best four goals against Mount St. Mary's, helping Navy improve to 2-0 in conference play. He followed that performance with three points on a goal and two assists against #10 Princeton. The San Diego native registered 10 points on seven goals and three assists against MIT. He closed out the weekend with a team-best eight points on five goals and a team-high three assists against Salem.
Reif was the top freshman with 10 points on nine goals and an assist, notching a pair of hat tricks. The Naperville, Ill. native, scored a goal against #10 Princeton. The freshman registered a hat trick against Wheaton College with three goals, while adding six points on five goals and an assist against MIT for his second hat trick of the weekend.
