CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Angela Myers (Jr., San Antonio, Texas) picked up her second Patriot League Player-of-the-Week honor of the season Monday for her performances during Navy's recent victories over Holy Cross and Army. She previously received the laurel on Dec. 28, 2009.
Myers led Navy in points (33), rebounds (15), assists (11), steals (2) and minutes played (74) on the week, while only being charged with one turnover in each game. She also shot 46.2 percent from the field while sinking 8-of-10 attempts from the foul line.
She began the week by knocking down 6-of-12 shots from the field and 5-of-6 free throw attempts during Navy's 77-69 victory over Holy Cross at Worcester, Mass. Myers tallied 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds while playing all 40 minutes of the game against the Crusaders. She tallied eight of Navy's 20 points that were scored during the final five minutes of the game.
A few days later, Myers notched her first double-double of the season and sixth of her career with a 16-point, 10-rebound performance during Navy's 54-48 victory over Army at West Point, N.Y. She accounted for four of Navy's eight field goals made during the second half of the game, while also tallying 13 of her 16 points and eight of her 10 caroms over the final 20 minutes of play.
Additionally, with her first assist during the game at Holy Cross she became the first player in Navy history to record 100-assist seasons in each of her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons at the school, as well as just the fifth player in Navy history to tally a trio of 100-assist campaigns over the course of a career.
Navy's win at Holy Cross allowed the Mids to post a regular season sweep of the Crusaders for the first time in school history. Navy's victory over Army gave the Mids their first win in the Star Game since 2003, their first Star Game win at West Point since 2000 and their first regular season sweep of the Black Knights in seven years.
Navy will close out its regular season with a pair of local games this week. The Mids will make the short drive to Washington, D.C., to face American Wednesday night before playing host to Colgate Saturday in Alumni Hall on The Yard. Both games will tip at 7 p.m.
Navy enters the final week of the regular season alone in third place in the league standings with a 7-5 record (15-12 overall). A win by Navy in either of its games or a loss by Colgate this week (the Raiders play host to Holy Cross Wednesday prior to making the trip to Annapolis) would give Navy the No. 3 seed in next week's Patriot League Tournament. Should the Mids and Raiders end up with identical records, Colgate would hold the tiebreaker and thus drop Navy down to the No. 4 seed.
