Patriot League Women's Basketball Tournament Seeding Scenarios

Feb. 25, 2010

Center Valley, Pa.-- With just one weekend of Patriot League play remaining, much has yet to be decided before the 2010 Patriot League Tournament. Lehigh and American have wrapped up the top two seeds, but in which order has yet to be determined. The Mountain Hawks and Eagles enter Saturday's contests tied for the Patriot League lead at 12-1. If both teams win on Saturday, each squad's ranking in Sunday's RPI will be used to break the tie. If both teams lose, American would be the top seed in the tournament.

The only other certainty after Wednesday's games is Navy's position in the tournament. Despite Navy's loss at American, the Mids clinched the No. 3 seed with Colgate's loss against Holy Cross.

Holy Cross and Colgate are currently tied for fourth place. The Crusaders hold the edge as a result of Holy Cross' sweep over the Raiders this season. With a win, Holy Cross would lock up the fourth position. The Crusaders can also clinch the No. 4 seed with losses by Army and Colgate. Holy Cross can finish no higher than fourth and no lower than seventh.

Colgate can secure the fourth seed with a win and a Holy Cross loss. The Raiders can finish as high as fourth and as low as sixth.

Army has the widest range of possibilities. The Black Knights could finish as high as fourth and as low as eighth. The Black Knights need a victory at Bucknell and losses by Colgate and Holy Cross to claim the fourth seed. With a loss against the Bison, Army would drop to the eighth seed.

Lafayette could finish as high as fifth. With a win over American, coupled with wins by Bucknell, Colgate and Lehigh, the Leopards would take the fifth spot. The Leopards can finish no worse than seventh. To finish better than seventh, the Leopards must beat the Eagles on Saturday.

Bucknell will finish sixth, seventh or eighth in the regular-season standings. With a loss, the Bison will drop to eighth. Bucknell can get the sixth seed with a win a Lafayette loss. If Lafayette wins, Bucknell would gain the No. 7 seed with a win over Army.

The quarterfinals and semifinals of the 2010 Patriot League Tournament will be played March 6-7 at the Hart Center on the campus of Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. The championship will be played on March 13 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
