PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Freshman Kristin Smith (Harleysville, Pa.) achieved a new personal record in the high jump with a clearance of 5'8" (1.73 meters) to highlight the Navy women's track and field team's efforts on Thursday at the 116th edition of the Penn Relays.
Smith's effort ranks second all-time on Navy's all-time high jumping ledger, behind only senior Krystina Johnson's 5'8¾" (1.75 meters) leap earlier this spring. Smith placed sixth overall in the event with the ECAC-qualifying performance and likely has solidified herself a spot in the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA Women's Track and Field Championships in Greensboro on May 27-29.
Other highlights included the 4x400 squad of Smith, senior Abby Gesecki, sophomore Mansfield Murph and freshman Arabia Littlejohn producing a season-best 3:55.16 clocking. Sophomore Colleen McFadden joined Smith, Murph and Littlejohn in the 4x100, posting the team's top time on the spring in 48.30 seconds.
Rounding out the team's efforts on Thursday was senior team captain Mia Blundetto who placed 17th in the hammer throw with a 153'8" toss (46.85 meters).
Navy will open up the championship portion of its schedule next weekend at the Patriot League Championships, held April 30-May 1 at Bucknell.
Thursday's Results: High Jump | Hammer Throw | 4x100 | 4x400
