Navy Bested by Harvard in Haines Trophy Race

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's lightweight crew team suffered a 5.5-second setback to Harvard in the Haines Trophy race on Saturday morning on the Severn River.

In the Haines Trophy race, which is awarded to the winner of the first varsity event, the Crimson crossed the finish line in 5:52.2, while the Midshipmen finished with a 5:57.7 clocking.

As in the first varsity race, Navy was edged in three other close races on Saturday. In the second varsity event, the Midshipmen were topped by 4.1 seconds, 5:59.7-6:03.8. Navy's third varsity boat was edged by a narrow 0.4-second, 6:06.9-6:07.3, followed by a 2.6-second setback in the first freshmen race, 6:14.6-6:17.2.

Navy's second freshmen crew delivered the largest margin of victory, 9.0 seconds, with a 6:24.7-6:33.7 win.

The Midshipmen (4-2) will return to action on Saturday, May 1, when they head up to Philadelphia to take on Penn for the Callow Cup with St. Joseph's.
