Bowen Receives South Jersey Award

April 5, 2010

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy's Kristin Bowen was recently named as one of three recipients of the South Jersey Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Year Award by the Al J. Carino Basketball Club. She shared the accolade with Rashidat Junaid of Rutgers and Amanda Jennings of Rowan.

Bowen, a native of Monroeville, N.J., who attended Sacred Heart High School in Vineland, averaged 9.5 points and 2.00 three-point field goals made a game for the Mids this year. She shot 41.6 percent from the field and 41.1 percent from three-point range on the season. Bowen improved her numbers to 10.9 points and 2.43 three-point field goals made a game, while shooting 45.0 percent from the floor and 50.7 percent from outside of the three-point arc during the Patriot League season.

Her 62 triples made this year ranks sixth in Navy history while her three-point field goal percentage on the season ranks third at the school. Despite not making a three-point field goal as a freshman and knocking down eight during her entire sophomore year, Bowen still connected on 97 three-point field goals over the course of her career. That tally ranks ninth at Navy while her career three-point field goal percentage of 37.2 percent places her fifth.

Nominees for the award must have played high school basketball in the South Jersey region and have completed their senior season in the sport on the college level.
