GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Navy women's track & field team concluded its season on Thursday with a pair of athletes competing at the 2010 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Track Championships at the Irwin Bell Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T University.
Sophomore Jess Palacio (Sun Valley, Nev.) placed 11th in her heat and 39th overall in the 1,500-meter competition with a time of 4:33.59. The effort concluded what was a terrific sophomore season for Navy's distance standout. Palacio captured three individual Patriot League titles (Mile run, 800m & 1,500m), earned a pair of ECAC All-East certificates (mile & 1,500) and established two school records (Mile: 4:50.80; 1,500m: 4:24.72) during the 2009-10 campaign.
Senior Krystina Johnson (Savannah, Ga.), meanwhile, was Navy's other representative at the meet, competing in the high jump. Johnson failed to record a successful clearance in three attempts at 5-4½ (1.64 meters). Johnson will graduate as the program's school record-holder in the event, thanks to a 5'8.75" (1.75m) effort on March 20 - the best mark achieved in the Patriot League during this past year.
