Navy Women's Soccer Loses at James Madison, 1-0

Sept. 19, 2010

Box Score

Harrisonburg, Va. - Freshman Haley Miller scored in the 48th minute to give James Madison (4-4-0) a 1-0 win over Navy (4-5-1) in women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at the JMU Soccer Complex.

"We played well in the final 15 minutes of the first half and in the final 15 minutes of the second half, but we needed to play that way for the entire game," said head coach Carin Gabarra.

One of Navy's best opportunities to get on the board came in the 24th minute when freshman Paloma Perez's shot hit off the crossbar.

JMU outshot Navy 10-4 in the first half.

JMU's senior midfielder Theresa Rynier sent a corner kick from the left side into the far post, which Miller headed into the back of the net in the opening minutes of the second half.

Navy had a number of chances late in the second half, but could not generate the game-tying goal. The Mids peppered three shots on goal and five shots overall in the final ten minutes of the game.

Diane Wszalek made three saves for the Dukes, turning in her third shutout of the year.

JMU outshot Navy 20-10 in the game and held an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. JMU took six corner kicks to Navy's three.

Sophomore Hannah Legler and freshman Alexes Lopez-Shaw each played a half in goal for Navy and combined for eight saves. Lopez-Shaw made a pair of key saves in the first half to prevent JMU from doing any further damage.

Navy will next host Duquesne on Friday night at 7:00 pm.
