Rakoczy Named to CollegeSoccerNews.com Team of the Week

Sept. 27, 2010

• CollegeSoccerNews.com Team of the Week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy sophomore soccer player Michael Rakoczy was one of 11 players nationally named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com Team of the Week, the website announced on Monday morning.

Rakoczy, a midfielder from Cincinnati, Ohio, scored the lone goal in Navy's 1-0 Star Game win over Army on Saturday night. His tally in the 60th minute was all Navy needed to win its second straight Star Game for the first time since the 1995-96 seasons. The victory was also Navy's first in West Point since that 1996 campaign.

Rakoczy leads the team in goals (4) with two of the tallies being game-winning efforts. Rakoczy and freshman Dave Arnold (Baltimore, Md.) share the team lead in points (8). All four of Rakoczy's goals have come in the last four games, and he is Navy's active career leader in points (16) and goals (6). Among Patriot League players, Rakoczy ranks tied for second in points (8), tied for first in points per game (1.33), tied for first in goals (4), first in goals per game (0.67) and tied for first in game-winning goals (2).

Rakoczy was previously named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 20, 2010, following a two-goal effort in a 3-1 victory over Delaware on Sept. 15.

Navy will host George Washington on Wednesday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility, beginning at 7:00 pm. It will be the final non-conference home game of the year for the Midshipmen. With a win, Navy will finish its non-conference home slate undefeated at 5-0-0 for the first time since the 1994 campaign and the first time in Glenn Warner Soccer Facility history.

Tickets are available at 1-800-US4-NAVY or at the ticket window prior to the game. JROTC members may attend the game at a discounted price of $2 if purchased in advance, and the game will be a Brigade Night / Study Break night, where Midshipmen are asked to have a grab-and-go dinner in Bancroft Hall and attend the game afterwards.
