Men's Swimming Defeats Johns Hopkins in Final Home Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's swimming team concluded it's regular season on Friday night at Lejeune Hall with a 121-111 victory over Johns Hopkins. The Mids, ranked No. 24 in the national coaches poll, are now 12-1, while Johns Hopkins fell to 6-2.

"Tonight's meet was a good opportunity for guys to get some racing in before the Patriot League Championships next week," said Navy head coach Bill Roberts. "Overall, I'm pleased with our effort today. We've got a couple things to fine-tune , but we're satisfied with the effort today and we're looking forward to next week."

Gage Trotter paced Navy's effort as he won both the 200 butterfly, with a time of 2:05.80, and the 200 backstroke by clocking a 2:08.28. In both events, Trotter led a Navy sweep of the top-three places.

Navy began the night by winning the 200 medley relay as Ryan Stumpf, Andrew Feeney, Charlie Hetzel and K.C. Linn combined for a time of 1:46.13.

Navy's John Ojard followed with a win in the 800 freestyle swim, posting a time of 8:27.43.

Jordan Spector later took first place in the 100 backstroke (59.71) and Ben Grove touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.88)

In a separate competition, the Navy men's and women's divers took on Drexel.

Hayden Jones scored a 333.00 in the one-meter competition to lead all male divers, while Olaf Olson paced the field in the three-meter dive with a 371.33. Navy's Ben Freedman placed third in both competitions, as he scored a 290.33 on the one-meter and a 313.13 in the three-meter dive.

On the women's side, Drexel's Megan Halicek won both competitions. She scored a 317.4 in the one-meter dive and a 313.65 in the three-meter.

Jordyn Nicholl was the Mids' top finisher in the one-meter competition with a second-place score of 259.50, and Grace Dalton took second place in the three-meter dive with a 239.40.

The 2011 Patriot League Championships will be hosted by Bucknell and get underway on Feb. 17.
