Navy Women's Tennis Caps Off Busy Weekend With Win

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team capped off a successful weekend with a 6-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Sunday night at the Brigade Sports Complex. The win was Navy's sixth in its last seven matches and improved the Midshipmen to 7-4 overall. Mount St. Mary's was playing in its season opener, falling to 0-1.

Navy went 2-1 over the weekend, defeating a strong Drexel squad, 5-2, and Mount St. Mary's, while falling to No. 34-ranked DePaul, 6-1.

Navy showed off its today as Navy head coach Keith Puryear rested several starters in spots.

"Our depth was on display today. Some of the starters played sparingly because we needed to rest them," said Puryear. "It was great to see some of the others have a chance to step up and deliver."

Navy took the doubles point by winning the first two doubles matches at No. 3 and No. 1. At No. 3 doubles, Natalie Houle (So. / The Woodlands, Texas) and Caitlin Olsen (Fr. / Los Gatos, Calif.) teamed up for an 8-2 victory, while Emani Decquir (So. / Sacramento, Calif.) and Stefanie Ton (So. / Milpitas, Calif.) won at No. 1 doubles by an 8-3 score. Brittney Boucher (Sr. / San Antonio, Texas) and Darien Sears (Fr. / Silver Spring, Md.) lost at No. 2 doubles, 8-6.

The Mids then won five-of-six singles matches with four of the victories coming in straight sets. Amanda Griffin (Sr. / Roseville, Calif.) started singles play off right with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Emily Bolchoz. Katie Laderer (So. / Norfolk, Va.) pushed the Navy lead to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Carly Landini at No. 2 singles. Erin Snook (Fr. / Tampa, Fla.) wrapped up Navy's seventh victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Samantha Pinchoff at No. 2 singles.

Dye Das (So. / Cherry Hill, N.J.) also won at No. 3 singles with a 7-6 (6), 1-6, 1-0 (5) win over Kelly Conroy and Haley Adams (Fr. / Woodstock, Ga.) won at No. 6 singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Renee Deane.

Navy will host Manhattan (11:00 am) and Howard (4:00 pm) next Saturday.
