BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Navy women's tennis team closed out a perfect Patriot League regular-season slate with a 7-0 blanking of Lehigh on Sunday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa.
The win improves Navy's record to 18-9 overall and 3-0 in the Patriot League. Lehigh falls to 3-10 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League.
Navy has won five straight matches and seven of its last nine. The five-match winning streak is tied for the second longest in school history.
In addition, Navy is now 5-1 all-time in Patriot League regular-season play.
The Mids had no problems with Lehigh, which was entering the dual unbeaten in Patriot League play.
"I was pretty pleased with our effort and we came out focused today," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "We actually watched the men's match and that gave us some incentive and focus. We came out strong from the start and we were pleased with our intensity level and overall play.
"Going unbeaten in league play is a good accomplishment for us, but we have to look past wins and losses and look at the things that we are doing and if we are getting better as a team. If we compete in every single match, that is what matters the most. The tournament is going to be about who is prepared the most and I think we will be ready," added Puryear.
Navy won all three doubles matches to grab the doubles point. Dye Das (So. / Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Amanda Griffin (Sr. / Roseville, Calif.) cruised at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 victory. Navy then won all six doubles matches, allowing no more than three games won by a Lehigh player in any of the six matches.
Griffin claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles over Taylor Hampshire for her 18th victory of the season. Decquir won at No. 2 singles over Liz Pescitelli by the same 6-1, 6-1 score.
Ton won at No. 3 singles over Patricia Muething by a score of 6-0, 6-2, and Darien Sears (Fr. / Silver Spring, Md.) defeated Abbey Perl at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
