ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The 2011-12 Navy women's basketball schedule features the defending Patriot League-champion Midshipmen facing four teams that represented their respective conference in 2011 post-season tournaments. Navy's entire regular season schedule includes 15 home games and 13 games to be played away from Annapolis.
Full season ticket packages for every men's and women's games are $140 for adults and $75 for both senior citizens and kids ages 18 and under. A season ticket package for just the Navy women's games costs $80 for adults and $45 for seniors and youths. Season ticket holders also receive the ability to park their vehicles in the Alumni Hall lot on game days. Fans can either call the Navy Ticket Office at 800-US4-NAVY or go online to NavySports.com to purchase season tickets.
Navy will open its season by playing host to Richmond (18-12, 9-5 Atlantic 10) on Nov. 11, then will make the short drive to Baltimore two days later to face Loyola (21-13, 15-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). The game against the Greyhounds will be the first of three consecutive games to be played away from Alumni Hall for the Mids. The middle game of this three-game span has the Mids playing Nov. 18 at William & Mary (3-26, 2-16 Colonial Athletic Association) before Navy concludes the stretch with a Nov. 26 game at Mount St. Mary's (8-21, 5-13 Northeast). Navy will close out the month of November by playing host to Air Force (9-22, 3-13 Mountain West) on Nov. 28.
The game against the Falcons begins a relatively travel free period where Navy will play six of its seven games at home. After facing Air Force, the Mids will play host to Houston Baptist (4-25, 1-11 Great West) on Dec. 2 and Maine (4-25, 2-14 America East) on Dec. 3 as part of the Navy Classic. Navy's busiest stretch of games for the entire season follows as the Mids will play host to Siena (14-16, 11-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) on Dec. 7 and Princeton (24-5, 13-1 Ivy League) on Dec. 9 before playing at Howard (16-18, 9-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) on Dec. 11.
Navy's final game prior to the holiday break will be a Dec. 20 game at home against UMBC (20-12, 13-3 America East). Sandwiched in between Christmas and New Year's Day will be a trip to New York City where the Mids will take part in the Fordham Holiday Classic. The Mids will first face the host Rams (12-19, 4-10 Atlantic 10) on Dec. 29 before taking on either Boston University (17-14, 12-4 America East) or Coppin State (13-17, 9-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) on Dec. 30. Navy will then end the non-league portion of its campaign with a Jan. 3 game against NJIT (7-21, 3-9 Great West) in Alumni Hall.
The Mids posted a 7-7 record against non-conference foes last season. Included in Navy's ledger a year ago were wins over Siena (57-43), NJIT (72-55), Maine (65-43), Mount St. Mary's (63-46), Air Force (63-62) and Howard (58-45) and losses to Loyola (57-54), Princeton (74-61) and UMBC (65-56).
Princeton joined Navy in advancing to the 2011 NCAA Tournament, while Loyola and UMBC competed in the 2011 WNIT.
The Patriot League season commences for Navy with a Jan. 7 game at Lafayette. The Mids will then open the home portion of league play with games Jan. 11 against Holy Cross and Jan. 14 against Army. This year's Star Game between Army and Navy will be contested Feb. 11 at West Point.
As occurred in 2011, the 2012 Patriot League Tournament will be played at campus sites with the higher-seeded team in every game serving as the host school for the contest. The four quarterfinal round games will be played on March 1, the two semifinal games will be held on March 5 and the championship game will take place on March 10.
Navy compiled a 10-4 record in Patriot League games last year to share the league's regular season crown with Lehigh and American. However, tiebreakers allowed the Mids to garner the top seed in the league tournament for the first time in school history. Navy remained at home throughout the event and recorded wins over Colgate (quarterfinal) and Bucknell (semifinal) before defeating American in the championship game of the tournament to advance to its first NCAA Tournament.
In addition to Navy competing in the NCAA Tournament, Lehigh represented the Patriot League in the 2011 WNIT.
