ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's and women's swimming and diving teams fared well at the Navy Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Lejeune Hall. The Navy men's team won 13 of 18 events and the women's team took first place in 10 of 17 events. Navy was joined by American, Shippensburg, Bucknell and Lehigh at the non-scored meet.

"I was content with the efforts of the athletes this afternoon," said head men's coach Bill Roberts. "Technically, we had a lot of take-away items that we need to continue to develop and work on. From a racing standpoint, our best events were the relays."

McCrae Kempf (Fr., Austin, Texas), William Norton (Sr., Tyler, Texas), Gage Trotter (So., Conroe Texas) and Trey Gregory (Jr., Dallas, Texas) teamed up to win the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:25.33.

Ben Freedman (So., Kennewick, Wash.) won the one-meter dive with 314.95 points and also won the three-meter dive with 328.25 points. Joe Esposito (Fr., Langhorne, Pa.) won the platform diving with 211.30 points.

Hollis Capuano (Jr., Wallingford, Conn.) and sophomore Rheanna Vaughn (So., Aliso Viejo, Calif.) helped pace the Navy women's team on Saturday, as each won two events.

Capuano won the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.91 and touched first in the 100 yard butterfly (58.20). She also placed second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.10).

Alex Lundgren (Fr., Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) won the 100 yard backstroke, coming in at 58.53. Lauren Baguley (So., Hudsonville, Mich.) opened up a big lead to take first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:08.99).

"We had a good all-around meet and it was a good lead-up to the championship season," head women's coach John Morrison said. "It was a long meet and we kept a good energy throughout and that's important when preparing for our three-day championship meet."

The Navy men will next host Columbia and Johns Hopkins on Friday and the women will be off until the Patriot League Championships (Feb. 16-18).
