BOSTON, Mass. - The Navy women's indoor track and field team (21-1) concluded its participation in the 2012 ECAC Indoor Championship at the with a second ECAC All-East performance. Navy garnered eight team points at the two-day championship, tying for 32nd place. Cornell won the team title with 55 team points, just edging out second-place UMES (54 points). Cornell also won the IC4A men's title this weekend.
Senior Amanda Phelps placed fourth in the weight throw Sunday with a mark of 58-3¾ (17.77m). It was the third best throw of her career. Phelps won the weight throw title at each of the last two Patriot League Indoor Championships and improved on her 12th-place finish at last year's ECAC Indoor meet. This is her second career All-East certificate.
"We are very proud of Amanda's performance today," head coach Carla Criste said. "She was really consistent today and had a very good technical approach."
Phelps' throw is tied for the seventh best mark in school history. She was the only Midshipman in competition on Sunday.
Senior Jess Palacio is currently ranked No. 18 in the nation in the mile run (4:38.43) and is a candidate to earn an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. The NCAA entry lists will be released Monday evening and the championships will be held in Nampa, Idaho from March 9-10.
