WORCESTER, Mass. - The Navy men's lightweight rowing team placed sixth overall at the EARC Sprints on Sunday in Worcester, Mass., on Lake Quinsigamond. Navy's varsity eight placed eighth, while the second varsity eight took fourth.

The varsity came in fourth place in its morning trial heat, falling to the petite final. In the petite final, the Mids clocked a 6:28.51 to take second place in the event and eighth overall.

Navy's second varsity and first freshman boats both placed second in their respective trial heats, garnering spots in the grand finals. The second varsity crew missed taking the top spot in the morning heat by just one second, and in the grand final it turned in a 6:16.12 to take fourth. Yale, Columbia and Cornell took the top three spots, respectively.

In the freshman eight grand final, the Mids found themselves in a battle for the fourth spot with Cornell. The Big Red wound up crossing the finish line in 6:32.94, as the Mids came in just a second behind with a time of 6:33.80 to take fifth.

In their only races of the day, the second freshman and third varsity crews placed second and third, respectively. The second freshman crew battled Harvard and Princeton for the top three spots. Harvard took first place with a time of 6:33.40 and Navy placed second with a 6:36.73, which was nearly two seconds ahead of the third-place Tigers.

The third varsity finished three seconds ahead of Dartmouth as it crossed the finish line with a time of 6:47.34 to take third place. Navy's fourth varsity took fourth place in its lone race by clocking a 6:40.65.

It is the second consecutive year Navy has placed sixth in the Jope Cup standings.
