Mids Pace Ten-Team Field at Navy Lid Lifter

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's track and field team (9-0) picked up nine wins at the double-dual scored Navy Lid Lifter on Tuesday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. Navy earned wins over Bowie State (105-41), Delaware State (114-40), Johns Hopkins (117-8), Lincoln (Pa.) (115-44), Maryland-Eastern Shore (106-44), McDaniel (122-2), Morgan State (100-54), Mount St. Mary's (100-52) and Towson (86.5-82.5).

Navy won the 60m hurdles, 1000m run, 3000m run, 4x800m relay and the weight throw.

"We are very proud of the performances today," said head coach Carla Criste. "They were all very focused tonight, which helped us overcome both Towson and Maryland-Eastern Short, two of our most talented regional competitors."

The Mids opened the meet out strong in the distance races with wins in the 1000m and 3000m.

Junior Shannon Cuthbert got Navy on to the right foot with its first event victory of the night in the 1000m run. Cuthbert cross the tape first with a time of 3:01.95. Teammate Ashley Welker, in the same heat, finished third with a time of 3:06.94.

Then in the 3000m, Mary Cate Scully paced all runners with a finishing time of 1-:22.16, which was five seconds faster than the next finisher. Christina Blair was the Mids next finisher in fourth with a time of 10:37.82.

In the 60m dash, senior captain Veronica Ffrench paced the Mids with an eighth-place finish of 7.95. In the 200m dash, Lily Brose led Navy with an eighth-place finishing time of 26.44.

Sarah Bernhart led all Mids in the 500m dash, finishing seventh overall (1.18.73). Navy saw three runners place in the top-five in the mile run with Zatha Loewen pacing all Mids with a third-place finish (5:14.82). Teammates Kaitlyn Jan and Anna Funkhauser placed fourth (5:18.40) and fifth (5:21.67), respectively.

Freshman Hali McFadgen won her first career event in the 60m hurdles with a meet-best time of 9.08.

Navy's 4x800m relay team of Cuthbert, Welker, Anastasia White and Loewen led the five-team field with a first-place time of 9:40.29.

In the weight throw, Maressa Guynn tossed a meet-best 15.72m to grab first in her event.

The Mids will next host the Navy Invitational on January 9.
