Women's Track Places Second at League Indoor Championship

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Navy women's indoor track and field team placed second at the 2013 Patriot League Indoor Championship at Army's Gillis Field House this weekend. The Mids won one individual title as senior Kristin Smith won the high jump on Saturday and the team had four runner-up finishes.

Bucknell won the team title with 162 points, while Navy was second with 110 and Lehigh was third at 106.33. Navy has placed first or second in each of the past five indoor league championships.

Sophomore Annie-Norah Beveridge earned all-league second-team honors by placing second in the 3,000m run with a personal-best time of 9:55.20 (ECAC). Senior Brigid Byrne took third place at 9:56.15 (ECAC) and freshman Kelley Robinson was sixth at 10:03.35. The trio combined for 15 points in the event. On Saturday in the 5,000m run, Byrne was second and Beveridge was third.

Senior Natasha Druggan earned All-Patriot League Second-Team honors in the 500m run. Druggan posted a 1:17.12 to place second and sophomore Sarah Bernhardt placed seventh at 1:18.36.

Freshman Ashley Welker placed fourth in the 800m run at 2:16.10 and freshman Dale Lescher was seventh (2:18.51). Junior Christina Blair placed fifth in the mile at 5:06.07.

Senior Jessica Ridgway took third place in the 60m dash at 7.79 and junior Veronica Ffrench was sixth (7.95). Ridgway also placed seventh in the 200m dash at 25.72 and Ffrench was the runner-up in the high jump on Saturday.

Senior Arabia Littlejohn clocked a 58.77 to place fourth in the 400m dash.

The 4x400m relay team of Littlejohn, Bernhardt, Welker and Druggan placed fourth at 3:57.11. Navy's distance medley relay team of freshman Meghan Harvey, senior Stephanie Payne, Lescher and sophomore Maria Arnone placed fourth at 12:26.81.

Navy earned 11 points in the shot put as three throwers scored. Junior Teronda Brown placed third at 43-5 (13.23m), junior Maressa Guynn was fourth at 42-3Â¼ (12.88m) and junior Lauren Allam placed sixth (41-0Â¼, 12.50m). Guynn took third in the weight throw on Saturday.

Senior Jordan Kronshage cleared a personal-best height of 11-9Â¾ (3.60m) to place sixth in the pole vault. Kronshage met the ECAC standard for the first time in her career on Sunday. Freshman Marissa Stewart was seventh in the pole vault at 11-3Â¾ (3.45m).

Freshman Crystan McLymore posted a season-best mark of 37-2Â¼ (11.33m) to place third in the triple jump. Sophomore Sarah Barnum placed fifth in the triple jump at 36-7 (11.15m) after scoring and placing sixth in the long jump on Saturday.

"It was a pretty solid meet for us and we were happy with how our athletes performed," head coach Carla Criste said.

Navy will next send its qualified athletes to the ECAC Indoor Championship in Boston from March 2-3.
