WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Navy women's track and field program opened the 2013 outdoor season at William & Mary's Tribe Invitational at Zable Stadium Saturday. Navy had eight top-five performances and four athletes surpassed the ECAC-qualifying standards. There was no team scoring.

"We had a nice start to the outdoor season," head coach Carla Criste said. "The highlights for us were the three ECAC marks in the discus and Annie-Norah [Beveridge] turning in a great performance in the 10,000."

Navy had a strong showing in the discus, taking spots 3-5-6. Junior Lauren Allam was third at 142-10 (43.53m), junior Teronda Brown took fifth (140-10, 42.94m) and junior Maressa Guynn was sixth at 140-7 (42.84m). All three throwers surpassed the ECAC-qualifying standard in the discus.

Brown also took third place in the shot put at 42-11½ (13.09m) and was sixth in the hammer throw at 137-2 (41.80m). Allam placed eighth in the shot put at 40-9¾ (12.44m).

Sophomore Annie-Norah Beveridge clocked a 37:01.55 (ECAC) to place second in the 10,000m run. The time moves Beveridge into ninth place on Navy's all-time performance list in the 10K. Freshman Michelle Nelson was seventh (39:11), freshman Morgan O'Connor was eighth (39:58) and freshman Kathryn Quandt was ninth (40:01).

Freshman Marissa Stewart placed second in the pole vault with a personal best clear of 11-9¾ (3.60m). Stewart's clear moves her into sixth place on Navy's all-time performance list.

Junior Veronica Ffrench placed second in the high jump with a clear of 5-5¼ (1.66m).

Freshman Amanda Mulkey placed fifth in the 1,500m run at 4:45.80 and freshman Kelly Robinson was sixth (4:46.25). Freshman Meghan Harvey was ninth at 4:49.86.

Sophomore Christina Blair ran a 10:04.71 to take sixth place in the 3,000m run.

Senior Jessica Ridgway took ninth place in the 100m dash at 12.53. Senior Stephanie Payne placed ninth in the 400m hurdles at 1:08.32.

Freshman Crystan McLymore placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 36-2¾ (11.04m).

Navy's 4x100m relay team of senior Arabia Littlejohn, Ffrench, senior Kristin Smith and Ridgway placed third with a time of 48.32.

Navy will compete at the Towson Invitational next Saturday.
