Guynn Leads Navy Women's Track at the Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior Maressa Guynn's personal-best performance in the discus highlighted Navy's participation in the 119th Penn Relays at Franklin Field on Thursday.

"We had a pretty good day with some standout individual performances," head coach Carla Criste. "Maressa Guynn did fantastic in the discus today and we are in a good position overall heading into the Patriot League Championship next weekend."

Guynn placed fifth in the college section of the discus with a mark of 157-6 (48.03m). It was Guynn's personal best and the third-best mark in school history.

Junior Lauren Allam placed seventh in the discus at 155-6 (47.42m), which is her season-best mark and the seventh-best in school history. Allam is the Navy school-record holder in the discus.

Both Guynn and Allam surpassed the ECAC-qualifying mark in the discus on Thursday and Guynn took over Allam's No. 1 ranking on the 2013 Patriot League performance list.

Junior Alix Membreno placed sixth in the college section of the javelin with a mark of 139-9 (42.62m). Membreno surpassed the ECAC Championship-qualifying standard for the third time this season with her mark on Thursday.

Junior Teronda Brown took 11th place in the college section of the shot put with a mark of 44-6 (13.56m) after breaking the school record last week. Allam placed 24th in the Eastern section of the shot put at 40-6¼ (12.35m).

Senior Kristin Smith placed ninth in the college section of the high jump with a clear of 5-6 (1.68m) and junior Veronica Ffrench was 15th at 5-4½ (1.64m).

Senior Stephanie Payne, Ffrench, Smith and senior Arabia Littlejohn clocked a 48.79 to place ninth in their heat and 53rd overall in the prelims of the 4x100m relay. Navy competed in the same heat as No. 1 Texas A&M, who posted the top-qualifying time at 44.33.

Navy placed seventh in its heat and 68th overall in the prelims of the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 4:00.49. Navy's 4x400m squad consisted of Payne, sophomore Sarah Bernhardt, Smith and senior Natasha Druggan.

Navy will next compete in the 2013 Patriot League Outdoor Championship in Bethlehem, Pa. from May 3-4.
