NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The visiting Navy men's basketball team (0-2) suffered a 92-53 loss at Notre Dame (2-0) in a campus round game of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday at Purcell Pavilion in front of 7,049 fans. Navy was playing just 38 hours after suffering a close 64-59 loss to #18 Michigan State in Annapolis on Friday at the Quicken Loans Veterans Classic.

Navy committed 20 turnovers in the contest after having just 10 giveaways against Michigan State.

"We weren't very good today," said head coach Ed DeChellis. "We had a hard time just passing and catching the ball and doing basic stuff. You can't come on the road and have 20 turnovers and be successful. Everything we did right on Friday, we did wrong today and we played like a very young team. We've got to learn and grow from this."

Notre Dame's Zach Auguste led all scorers with 20 points while guard Jerian Grant added 17 points and 10 assists.

"I think Mike's [Brey] got a very good team," said DeChellis. "They are very long and very athletic. They can score and they score easily. They are a tough team for us to match up to."

Navy sophomore center Edward Alade scored in double figures for the second straight game as he tallied 10 points and senior guard Brandon Venturini chipped in with 11. Venturini hit three 3-pointers to move into a tie for sixth-place at Navy for career triples with 148, tying Kaleo Kina and Jason Jeanpierre.

The Mids had a strong start to the game and after back-to-back 3-pointers by Venturini, Navy led Notre Dame, 10-6. However, Notre Dame answered with an 11-0 run, punctuated by a 3-pointer from Pat Connaughton to retake the lead at 17-10.

Navy freshman guard Bryce Dulin provided a spark by finding Alade for a layup and then nailing a 3-pointer on the next possession to pull Navy within two points at 21-19.

Navy then struggled to overcome its carelessness with the ball in the first half (12 turnovers) and Notre Dame pulled ahead for an eight-point lead at the break.

"We were not very strong with the ball or talking, and we were not back-cutting enough," said Venturini. "Everyone was being a little timid with the ball and throwing it away."

Alade scored six points early in the first half, but the Fighting Irish continued to open up its lead. After junior center Will Kelly scored a layup at the 9:10 mark of the second half, Navy would not score another field goal for over six minutes while Notre Dame went on a 21-2 run before a Dulin 3-pointer with 2:40 left. That basket would be Navy's last as Notre Dame closed on a 6-0 run for the 92-53 final.

Navy point guard Tilman Dunbar finished with nine points and Kelly and Dulin each had six points.

Navy set a school record for most free throws made in a game without a miss by going 15-of-15 from the charity stripe. Navy made all of its free throws in a game for the first time since going 8-of-8 against Bucknell on February 2, 2007.

"The bright spots for us were not missing a free throw, we were 15-for-15 from the line, and our two guys at the 5 spot combined for 16 points and six rebounds," DeChellis said.

Navy will continue campus round play in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament on Thursday when the Mids travel to face Providence at 7:00 PM on Fox Sports 2.
