Mids to Play Defending Big East Champs Providence Thursday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's basketball team (0-2) will continue play in the campus round of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Providence (2-0) on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

The Navy-Providence game will be televised on Fox Sports 2 with Rich Ackerman (play-by-play) and Vin Parise (analyst) on the call. Fox Sports 2 is on channel 84 for Verizon subscribers in the Annapolis area. The channel is also available on Direct TV and Dish Network.

Pete Medhust will also have the radio call on WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM in the Annapolis area and on WBQH 1050 AM in the Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia area. Live streaming audio can also be found on 1430wnav.com.

Midshipmen Storylines
• Navy opened the season with a competitive five-point loss (64-59) to #18 Michigan State on Friday, but struggled in a quick turnaround game at Notre Dame on Sunday, 92-53.
• Navy set a program record for most free throws made without a miss at Notre Dame on Sunday by going a perfect 15-of-15 from the line.
• Sophomore center Edward Alade and senior guard Brandon Venturini are both averaging 11.0 points through the first two games. Venturini also has team-best averages of 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
• Venturini recently moved into a tie for sixth place in the Navy record books for career 3-pointers with his 148th.
• Junior guard Tilman Dunbar is averaging 9.5 points, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in a team-high 30.0 minutes.
• Navy is leading the Patriot League in free throw percentage (.840).
• Navy had just 10 turnovers in its loss to Michigan State, but then had 20 against Notre Dame.

Providence Storylines
• Providence is 2-0 this season with wins over America East members Albany (64-60) and Binghamton (66-45).
• The Friars are led by junior forward Tyler Harris (17.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and senior forward LaDontae Henton (16.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg).
• Providence also features two 7-footers in Paschal Chukwu (7-2) and Carson Desrosiers (7-0).
• Freshman Kryon Cartwright is averaging 7.0 points and 5.0 assists in his first two career games and guard Kris Dunn is averaging 6.0 points and 4.5 assists.
• Head coach Ed Cooley is in his fourth season at Providence and is 59-44 during that time span.
• Providence won the 2014 Big East Tournament Championship.

Series History vs. Providence
• Navy and Providence are meeting for the first time since the 1981-82 season and just the second time ever.
• In the only previous meeting in series history, the Mids defeated the Friars, 68-65, in Rhode Island.
• The game was a part of the Inbank Classic, which was hosted by Providence.
• Navy is 51-30 against teams that are currently in the Big East.
• Navy is 6-5 all-time against schools from the state of Rhode Island.
• Navy played in Rhode Island last season, falling at Bryant 90-80 in overtime on Dec. 14, 2013.

Looking Ahead
• Navy will next play Northeastern at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday at 8:00 PM in Uncasville, Conn.
• The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
• Northeastern was picked to win the CAA in the league's preseason poll.
• Navy will then play either Manhattan or Binghamton in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament Springfield Bracket Championship or Consolation game on Sunday evening.
