ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy squash team enjoyed a successful opening weekend, putting together a flawless 6-0 mark that was capped with a pair of 9-0 victories Sunday morning against Johns Hopkins and Minnesota.

Head coach Craig Dawson, who now is just four wins shy of 300 for his career, rotated his lineup freely throughout the weekend, playing 12 different players including four freshmen. Eight players made appearances in five of the six matches, while senior John Hsu (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) saw six victories tacked onto his career total which now stands a 37-11.

Rookie Greg Hyer (Tenafly, N.J.) earned an 11-1, 11-2, 11-3 victory over Minnesota's Ze-Hong Ong in what was his first collegiate match.

Meanwhile, senior Jim Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.) picked up his 60th career win thanks to an 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 victory over Stefan Reichenstein of Johns Hopkins. Kacergis now owns a 61-32 career mark.

Classmate Andrew McGuinness (Merion Station, Pa.) won his 60th career match on Saturday and tacked on two more a day later, beating Johns Hopkins junior Harrison Finkelstein, 11-4, 11-6, 11-5 and Minnesota's Wei Sien Goh, 11-7, 10-12, 11-5, 11-6. He now stands 62-32 over four seasons.

Sophomore Randy Beck (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) had his hands full Sunday morning where Johns Hopkins freshman Luca Pinelli led the match, 2-1, forcing Beck to win the final two games. The fifth game saw the two players trade points with Beck eventually taking the game, 12-10, to win the match.

Junior Bill Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.) saw his career mark improve to 43-15 after picking up five wins on the weekend. One of those five wins was against a familiar face, high school teammate Noel Swanson who is a junior at Johns Hopkins. Kacergis got the best of Swanson, earning an 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 victory.

The Midshipmen will return to action next weekend when they play host to their second round robin of the year. Navy will face Georgetown and Stanford on Friday and Denison, Hobart and Bucknell on Saturday.
