Dec. 18, 2014 Navy junior quarterback
Keenan Reynolds has been named the FBS Independent Offensive Player of the Year for the second-straight year and Navy placed six players on the first team it was announced today. The FBS All-Independent Team and Players of the Year were selected by members of a nationwide media panel, which includes equal representation from each of the independent institutions' coverage markets.
Reynolds rushed for 1,182 yards and 21 touchdowns, while throwing for 826 yards and six touchdowns in leading Navy to a 7-5 season, which included a 17-10 victory over Army last Saturday. The Mids will play San Diego State in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 6:30 PM (PT). The game will be televised by ESPN.
The 21 rushing touchdowns by Reynolds were tied for the fifth most in the country and the most by a quarterback and gives him 62 for his career, the most in NCAA history by a quarterback. It is also the third most in school history.
Copeland rushed for 889 yards and five touchdowns on 117 carries. His 7.6 yards per carry is the second most in school history and needs 111 yards rushing against San Diego State to become just the second fullback in the triple option offense to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
Zuzek and Binns helped pave the way for the number one rushing team in the country. The Mids enter the bowl game averaging 345.1 yards per game, which is more than 11 yards per game than number two Georgia Tech and is the second best average in school history.
Anthony finished the regular season fourth on the team and first among defensive lineman with 65 tackles, a team-high 10.5 tackles for a loss and a team-best 2.5 sacks. Gaines recorded 40 tackles and led the Mids with three interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown.
