Smith Named NAAA Athlete of the Week

Dec. 30, 2014

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior men's basketball forward Worth Smith has been named the NAAA Athlete of the Week presented by Rolls-Royce for the span of December 14-27. Smith was also named the Lids Team Sports Patriot League Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

After missing 10-straight games with a knee injury suffered in Navy's season opener against Michigan State, Smith returned to the lineup to lead Navy to a 61-56 win over Towson last Monday.

Smith scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to send the Mids into conference play on a winning note. Smith was 7-of-14 from the floor and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. He also made a 3-pointer and had two blocks in 28 minutes of action.

Smith made Navy's last two field goals in the game's closing minutes to seal the victory.

This is Smith's third career NAAA Athlete of the Week award.

Navy (4-8, 0-0 PL) will open Patriot League play on Wednesday when the team hosts Loyola (4-7, 0-0 PL) at 4:00 PM in Alumni Hall.
