HAMPTON, Va. - The Navy Sailing Team headed south to the Hampton Roads area this weekend for some spring like weather and two team racing events: the Pirate Team Race at Hampton University and the Quad Scrimmage at Old Dominion. After the cold weather Navy had been experiencing since the beginning of practices this season, the change in the weather was very welcome for Navy's sailors and they responded with a solid showing all around. In Navy's first team racing regatta of the year, Navy came out firing, winning its first four races en route to the overall victory in the six-team Pirate Team Race. Light winds limited the event to having only one complete round robin, but it was a good start to the year for Killian Corbishley, Phil Youngberg, Aaron Hull, Karen Vargas, Spencer Nora and Molly Robertson, who beat out some stiff competition for the win.

Across Hampton Roads in Norfolk, Michael Grove, Layne Morrison, Chelsea Smith, Alex Asuncion, Emma Ferris, Mary Hall, Michael Popp and Patrick Snow were busy scrimmaging with teams from Old Dominion, St. Mary's and Georgetown. While no official results were kept for the scrimmage, Navy was successful in tightening up the game plan against quality competition. Navy got the better of the other teams a lot of the time and the team feels a lot more ready for the major regattas it has scheduled in the coming weeks.

Next weekend is one of Navy's busiest of the spring, with three different team race regattas scheduled.
