FAIRFAX, Va. â€"â€" The Navy swimming and diving teams combined to win 24 events and post a sweep of George Mason Friday afternoon in the team's first competition of the 2015-16 season. Navy's women's team defeated the Patriots by the score of 160-135, while the men's squad recorded a 158-123 win.

"Overall, I was real pleased with the performance of our swimmers and divers both in and out of the water," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts. "This was a good start to the season. They have been working really hard and I am proud of their efforts."

"It was nice to be able to get back up and race against someone," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison. "We did well for a first meet. It was a great effort by our freshmen, and it was good to see our freestyle depth in action."

The lone Mid from either team to win three individual events on the day was freshman Lauren Barber (New Wilmington, Pa.), who won the 200 free, 200 breast and 400 IM events.

"That was a fantastic triple for Lauren," said Morrison. "Those are tough events to go through and she did very well in them."

Winning a pair of events on the day for the Mids were diver Julie Jesse (Sr., Edwardsburg, Mich.), who won both boards, Erin Jordan (Fr., Schnecksville, Pa.), who won the women's 500 and 1000 free events, and Marlin Brutkiewitz (Jr., Mobile, Ala.), who touched the wall first in the men's breaststroke events.

Additional women's event winners were Ally Warnimont (Fr., Winston-Salem, N.C.), 200 backstroke; Kaitlyn O'Reilly (So., Farmington, Minn.), 100 backstroke; Hanna Gillcrist (Jr., Burlington, Ky.), 100 butterfly and the 400 freestyle relay team.

On the men's side, winning events for the Mids were divers Nate Belch (So., Tucson, Ariz.), three meter, and Joe Kaszubowski (Fr., Whitefish Bay, Wis.), one meter; along with swimmers Joseph Jaime (So., San Antonio, Texas), 100 free; Ryan Bailey (Jr., Boardman, Ohio), 100 fly; Kenny Parker (So., Manassas, Va.), 1000 free; Alex Nickell (Sr., Loveland, Colo.), 200 free; David Carlson (Sr., Brielle, N.J.), 100 back, Jonathan Debaugh (Sr., Conroe, Texas), 500 free; Nick Pfanstiel (Fr., Fishers, Ind.), 200 fly; Brayden Lauffer (Fr., Apex, N.C.), 400 IM and the 200 medley relay team.

Complete results with times from the meet will not be available until Saturday.

Navy will be back in action Saturday at noon when both programs play host to East Carolina and Old Dominion in Lejeune Hall.
