ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's basketball team (0-2) will seek its first win of the season on the road at USC Upstate (0-2) on Thursday at 7:30 PM. Navy opened the 2015-16 with a loss to SEC-member Florida in the Veterans Classic and then fell to College of Charleston on Monday.

Thursday's contest will air on ESPN3.com and Watch ESPN with Jason Patterson and Phil Cox calling the action. The game will also be on the radio on WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM in Annapolis with Pete Medhurst on the call. Live statistics will also be available.

This will be the first of a home-and-home non-conference series with the Spartans this season. Navy will host USC Upstate in Alumni Hall on Dec. 14.

Midshipmen Storylines
• Navy is looking to get in the win column for the first time this season at USC Upstate.
• Navy is coming off a 72-58 loss to College of Charleston on Monday.
• Navy's sophomore class had a breakout performance against Charleston.
• Sophomore starting guard Shawn Anderson scored a career-high 21 points in 35 minutes and also had six rebounds.
• Sophomore starting forward Jace Hogan posted his first career double-double with career-high totals of 16 points and 10 rebounds. It was Hogan's second career start.
• Sophomore guard Bryce Dulin came off the bench to score 10 points in 25 minutes of action.
• The three sophomores combined for 81 percent of the team's scoring on Monday (47 out of 58 points) and the sophomore class has scored 69 percent of the team's points through the first two games.
• Navy has had fast starts in both of its games so far this season. The Mids opened the Florida game on a 9-2 run and was leading 11-0 against Charleston.
• Hogan posted Navy's first double-double since 2015 graduate Worth Smith had 21 points and 10 rebounds against Loyola on Dec. 31, 2014.
• Navy has used the same starting lineup for both of its games this season. Seniors Tilman Dunbar, Kendall Knorr and Will Kelly have been joined by Hogan and Anderson in the starting five.

USC Upstate Storylines
• USC Upstate is 0-2 after dropping two road games to open up the 2015-16 season.
• The Spartans lost at Texas A&M in its opener last Friday, 104-64, then lost a close game at Presbyterian on Monday, 74-73.
• Presbyterian hit two free throws with two seconds left to earn the win.
• Four players scored in double figures for the Spartans on Monday with junior forward Damian Goodwin leading the way with 14 points.
• Goodwin and junior 6-foot-11 center Michael Buchanan are each averaging 10 points this season and freshman guard Mike Cunningham is averaging 9.0.
• USC Upstate was 24-12 last season and 8-6 in the Atlantic Sun.
• USC Upstate fell to North Florida in the Atlantic Sun Championship game last season and played in the postseason CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
• USC Upstate graduated its leading scorer from last season, Ty Greene, who ranked 11th in the NCAA in scoring at 20.3 points per game. Greene is currently playing in the NBA D-League for the Delaware 76ers.

Series History vs. USC Upstate
• This is the first-ever meeting between Navy and USC Upstate.
• Navy is 2-3 all-time against teams currently in the Atlantic Sun conference.
• Navy is 12-13 against teams from South Carolina all-time and 0-1 this season after the loss to Charleston.

From the Biggest Arenas to the Smallest
• Navy will play in USC Upstate's G.B. Hodge Center on Thursday, which is the smallest Division I arena in the nation with a capacity of just 818.
• The Hodge Center would hold only about five-and-a-half companies of the Brigade of Midshipmen and could not even contain one of the Brigade's six battalions.
• Next week, Navy will also play in one of the biggest college venues in Division I when they play in the Greensboro Coliseum over the Thanksgiving weekend.
• The Greensboro Coliseum, home of UNCG, holds 23,000, which is tied for second with Kentucky's Rupp Arena.
• Only Syracuse's Carrier Dome (34,616) holds more among Division I home courts.

Looking Ahead
• Navy will return to Annapolis to host Division III Goucher on Sunday at 12 noon.
• The Goucher contest is a campus-round game of the upcoming Spartan Showcase at the Greensboro Coliseum.
• Navy posted a 98-47 win over Goucher early in the 2013-14 season.
• Current juniors (then-freshmen) Edward Alade (14 points) and James Hemphill (10 rebounds) had strong performances against the Gophers.
