Navy Game Notes

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's basketball team (7-3) will play its final game of its seven-game road swing at VMI (3-5) on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com with Wade Branner and Grafton Young on the call and live statistics will be available.

Former Navy assistant Dan Earl will be facing his former mentor in Navy head coach Ed DeChellis on Saturday. Earl played under DeChellis at Penn State and coached under him at both Penn State and Navy before being named head coach at VMI this past offseason.

Midshipmen Storylines
• Navy had its seven-game winning streak snapped by #24 Oregon, 67-47, at the FS1 Pearl Harbor Invitational on Monday.
• Senior Will Kelly had 13 points and eight rebounds against Oregon and sophomore Jace Hogan tallied 10 points and five boards.
• Sophomore Shawn Anderson is this week's NAAA Athlete of the Week and he is featured in this week's Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd.
• Anderson leads Navy in scoring at 12.8 points per game and Hogan is second at 11.8 points per game.
• Senior Tilman Dunbar is ranks 11th in school history with 340 career assists and is 18th with 81 career starts.
• Kelly is fourth in school history with 137 career blocked shots.
• Kelly leads the Patriot League and ranks 26th in the NCAA in blocks per game (2.5) and is second in the league in field goal percentage (.597).
• As a team, Navy is first in the Patriot League and 16th in the NCAA in scoring defense (59.7).
• The Mids are also leading the Patriot League in field goal percentage defense (.400), rebounding defense (30.7), rebounding margin (+5.8) and blocked shots per game (3.7).
• Navy is receiving one voting point in this week's AP Top 25 Poll and is also receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.
• At 7-3, Navy is off to its best 10 game start since opening the 2008-09 season at 8-2.
• Navy is 4-0 in true road games this season.

VMI Storylines
• VMI's first-year head coach is Dan Earl, who was an assistant at Navy under DeChellis from 2012 to 2015.
• Earl played under Ed DeChellis at Penn State and also coached under him at Penn State from 2006-11.
• VMI is 3-5 and is coming off a 93-66 loss at #18 Butler on Monday evening.
• VMI's wins are against Presbyterian (76-61) and non-Division I programs Tusculum (88-76) and Central Penn (107-72).
• Junior guard QJ Peterson leads the team in scoring with his 20.1 average and junior guard Julian Eleby is second on the team at 16.3.
• VMI ranks 40th in the nation in 3-point field goals made at 9.4 per game and the Keydets are seventh nationally in free throw percentage (.784).
• VMI was 11-19 overall last season and 7-11 in the Southern Conference.
