HONOLULU - The Navy men's basketball team (7-3) fell to #24 Oregon (71), 67-47, on Monday in the FS1 Pearl Harbor Invitational at Bloch Arena on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
"I thought we really played hard and we competed and I'm proud of our team," said head coach Ed DeChellis. "We didn't play well, but that's a credit to Oregon. They are very talented and very athletic."
Senior center Will Kelly led Navy with 13 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals and sophomore forward Jace Hogan had 10 points and five rebounds. Kelly had three dunks in the contest.
Junior guard Tim Abruzzo scored nine points with six rebounds, while sophomore guard Shawn Anderson also scored nine points.
Navy used a 7-0 run with back-to-back buckets inside by Kelly and then a 3-pointer from the left corner from sophomore guard Bryce Dulin to cut the margin to seven at 45-38 with 10 minutes to go in the game.
However, Oregon's Dwayne Benjamin responded right back with a 3-pointer and Navy could not get back within 10 points for the rest of the contest. Oregon also closed the game on a 15-5 run as the final score was not indicative of how close the contest was throughout the night.
Dillon Brooks led four Ducks in double figures with 19 points and Benjamin added 16. Chris Boucher had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds and Casey Benson also chipped in with 10 points.
Oregon shot 47 percent in the game (24-of-51), while Navy shot just 32 percent (18-of-57). Navy struggled from the free throw line (9-of-18) and made just two of its 14 3-point field goal attempts.
Navy had its seven-game winning streak snapped on Monday.
The game was played on the 74th anniversary of the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor.
Navy will next play at VMI on Saturday.
