Smith Named NAAA Athlete of the Week

Feb. 17, 2015

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy men's basketball senior forward Worth Smith has been named the NAAA Athlete of the Week, presented by Rolls-Royce, for the week ending February 15. This is Smith's third NAAA Athlete of the Week accolade this season.

Smith scored 22 points, including 20 in the second half, to lead Navy's 15-point rally in a 70-69 road win at first-place Colgate on Saturday. Smith scored eight of Navy's final 11 points in the contest, including the game-winning basket with 13 seconds left.

"We came out with a lot of energy in the second half," said Smith. "They made some tough shots but we stayed together as a team and believed that we could win it. We started fouling and making the plays we needed to make. We've been practicing really hard and I felt like we earned this."

Smith also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals against Colgate. It was his team-best fifth 20-point game of the season.

Smith also had six points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks in Navy's 52-51 loss to Bucknell on Wednesday.

In conference games, Smith ranks sixth in the Patriot League in scoring (15.5), 10th in rebounding (5.8), fifth in steals (1.4) and sixth in blocked shots (1.2).

Smith and David Robinson are the only two players in school history to amass 1,000 career points, 500 rebounds, 100 steals and 100 blocked shots.
