Last Game
Chloe Stapleton and Sarita Condie staked Navy to an early lead over Colgate, then Taylor Dunham helped the Mids salt away a 64-52 victory over the Raiders Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall in Annapolis.
Navy held a 24-23 lead when the Mids went on a 15-0 run and held Colgate scoreless until a jumper with 10 seconds left ended a seven-minute scoring drought by the Raiders and sent the teams into the locker rooms with the Mids holding a 39-25 lead.
Stapleton made four triples in scoring 12 first-half points, while Condie was 5-8 from the floor to also tally 12 points.
The Navy lead remained in double figures for the first eight minutes of the second half until a 5-0 run by the Raiders cut the margin down to 45-38. The Mids and then the Raiders scored on jumpers to again make it a seven-point game, then Hannah Fenske drilled a three-point shot to take the margin back to double figures at 50-40 with 8:10 left to play.
Colgate needed a little more than two minutes of clock time to slice that 10-point gap down to three at 50-47 with 5:49 showing on the clock. Dunham answered on Navy's next trip down the floor with a weaving layup while being fouled, and her resulting tally from the charity stripe doubled the lead to 53-47. Dunham soon connected on a three-point shot to take the Navy lead out to 56-47 with four minutes remaining, then Haley Unger made two free throws to give the Mids an 8-0 run and a 58-47 lead with 3:09 showing on the clock.
Navy's lead would remain at least eight points over the remainder of the game.
Dunham accounted for 10 of Navy's final 14 points of the game and 15 points in all, Stapleton drained five three-point field goals for 15 points and Condie had 13 points. Additionally, Justice Swett posted seven rebounds, six steals and four assists.
