Patriot League Tournament Scenarios

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's basketball team (11-18, 7-10 PL) will close the Patriot League regular season at Loyola (11-17, 7-10 PL) on Saturday at 11:00 AM in Reitz Arena. Navy is currently in a three-way tie for seventh place and could be seeded anywhere from the #6 seed to the #9 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, which begins next week.

The Mids can reach the #6 seed with a win and wins by Army (over Lafayette) and Bucknell (over American). Otherwise, Navy would be at #7 with a win unless American and Holy Cross (over Boston U.) win, dropping the Mids to #8. Navy will be the #9 seed with a loss unless Army and Boston U. both win, which would place the Mids at #8.

There are still 32 different seeding scenarios for the Patriot League heading into the final day of the season. The top six seeds get a bye into the quarterfinals on Thursday, while the bottom four seeds play in the first round on Tuesday.

First-place Bucknell has clinched at least a share of the regular season crown, but Colgate could still earn the #1 seed. Lehigh is locked into the #3 seed and Army is locked into #10, but the rest of the seeds are still up for grabs.

Saturday's contest will be streamed for free on PatriotLeague.TV and navysports.com. The game will be available on the radio on WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM in Annapolis and on wnav.com. Pete Medhurst and Michael Heary will serve as the broadcast crew. Live statistics will also be available.

Midshipmen Storylines
• Navy (7-10) is in a three-way tie for seventh place with Loyola and Holy Cross and the Mids could finish anywhere from the tied for fifth to ninth place in the league standings. Navy could be seeded anywhere from #6 to #9 depending on Saturday's outcomes.
• Heading into the final game of the regular season, Navy has already increased its overall win total (11) and its conference win total (7) for the third straight year under head coach Ed DeChellis.
• Senior guard Brandon Venturini has 993 career points and is seven points away from becoming the 22nd Midshipmen to score 1,000 career points.
• Venturini is third in school history in career 3-pointers made (204) and is third in career 3-point field goal attempts (593).
• Venturini is second on the team in scoring at 12.5 points per game overall and 13.3 in conference games.
• Venturini leads the Patriot League in 3-pointers made per game (2.6) and has made a 3-pointer in 32 straight games.
• Senior Worth Smith surpassed the 1,000-point mark earlier this season.
• Smith leads Navy in scoring (15.1) and rebounding (5.6).
• Smith, Michigan State's Branden Dawson and Wyoming's Larry Nance are the only three active Division I players in the country with over 1,100 career points, 550 rebounds, 100 blocks and 100 steals.
• Junior guard Tilman Dunbar is third on the team in scoring at 9.0 and leads the team with 3.4 assists. Dunbar ranks 11th in school history with 300 career assists.
• Junior Will Kelly ranks first in the Patriot League in overall blocks per game (1.6) and blocks per game in conference play (2.1).
• Kelly has 46 blocks on the season and he has blocked 20 shots in Navy's last six games.
• Freshman guard Shawn Anderson has scored in double-figures in back-to-back games. Anderson had a season-high 14 points against American and 13 points against Holy Cross.
• In the last five games, Anderson is averaging 8.2 points and 5.4 rebounds.
• Navy's 11 wins overall are the most since 2011 and the seven conference wins are the most since 2010.

Loyola Storylines
• Loyola is tied with Navy for seventh place in the league standings at 7-10, but is currently the #9 seed due to tiebreakers.
• Loyola won a triple-overtime thriller over Colgate last Sunday, but then lost to Holy Cross, 63-60, on Wednesday.
• Junior guard Tyler Hubbard leads Loyola in scoring (11.2) and is followed by junior guard Eric Laster (10.8) and freshman guard Andre Walker (10.6).
• In conference play, Walker leads the trio with 11.1 points per game.
• Hubbard scored a team-high 17 points in the loss to Holy Cross on Wednesday.
• Junior forward Franz Rassman and freshman forward Cam Gregory each added 12 points against he Crusaders.
• The Greyhounds ranks nine out of 10 teams in the league in scoring (62.4).
• Loyola is in its second season in the Patriot League. The Greyhounds were the #8 seed in the 2014 Patriot League Tournament.
• Loyola is coached by G.G. Smith. He is 22-36 in his second season at the school.

Series History vs. Loyola
• Navy leads the all-time series, which began in the 1909-10 season, 21-6.
• Navy posted a 70-47 win over Loyola in the first meeting of the season in Annapolis on Dec. 31.
• Worth Smith led Navy with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Tilman Dunbar added 13 points and six assists.
• Will Kelly tallied nine points, four rebounds and four blocks.
• Navy had 17 assists and just five turnovers in the game.
• Loyola swept the season series last year.

• The Patriot League Tournament will begin next week.
• The bottom four seeds will play in the Patriot League First Round on Tuesday and the top six seeds receive a bye into the quarterfinals on Thursday.
