ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's basketball team held its annual year-end team banquet in the VADM William P. Lawrence "N" Room at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on March 29. Head coach Ed DeChellis and the coaching staff handed out the team awards and Navy's four seniors, Kevin Alter, Earl McLaurin, Worth Smith and Brandon Venturini, each delivered speeches.

Smith received the team's David Robinson Award and the team's Charles McDonough Most Outstanding Player of the Year Award. The David Robinson Award is presented to the men's basketball player of the graduating class who has contributed the most to the team's success over his playing career.

Smith was named to the All-Patriot League First Team in 2015. The senior led the team in scoring for the third straight year with 14.5 points per game. He also led the team in rebounding at 5.9 boards per game and in minutes played per game (31.7) in 2015.

Smith ranked fifth in the Patriot League in conference games in scoring (15.6), fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.460), sixth in steals (1.3), seventh in blocked shots (1.1), 11th in offensive rebounds (1.7), 12th in field goal percentage (.498), 13th in rebounding (5.5), and 14th in defensive rebounds (3.8).

Smith finished his Navy career ranked 20th in school history with 1,172 career points, 11th with 603 career rebounds, seventh with 107 career blocks and 19th in steals with 107.

Alter received the team's Rear Admiral Ronald Marryott Award, which is awarded to the player who demonstrates a commitment to character, to leadership and to his teammates and is considered the highest honor bestowed upon a Navy basketball player.

Alter served as the team captain in 2014-15 and played in 80 games during his Navy career. Alter has been named to the 2015 NABC Allstate Good Works Team along with Virginia's Malcolm Brogdon, Texas A&M's Jordan Green, Appalachian State's Michael Obacha and Santa Clara's Dominic Romeo. The NABC Allstate Good Works Team will be recognized at the Final Four in Indianapolis this weekend.

Junior center Will Kelly was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year. Kelly averaged 6.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 20.4 minutes per game. Kelly led the team in overall blocks with 57, the ninth-best single season total in school history. He also led the Patriot League in overall blocks per game (1.8) and blocks per game in conference games (2.2).

Sophomore center Edward Alade received the team's Paul Evans Most Improved Player Award. Alade averaged 5.3 points and 3.4 rebounds as a sophomore, after averaging 1.3 points and 1.5 rebounds as a freshman. He also started 22 games for Navy in 2014-15.

Sophomore guard Grant Vermeer earned the team's Kevin Sinnett Academic Achievement Award. Vermeer owns a 3.43 cumulative grade-point average as a cyber operations major. Vermeer averaged 2.2 points and 1.2 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game. He started the first nine games of the season.

In addition to the team awards, Smith and Venturini were presented with commemorative game balls for surpassing the 1,000-point milestone and DeChellis was presented a game ball commemorating his 250th career win. Senior Matt Faber received the program's Navy Basketball Development Team Award.

Navy went 13-19 in 2014-15 and tied for sixth place in the Patriot League with an 8-10 conference mark. Navy doubled its conference win total from a year ago and increased its overall win total for the third straight year. Navy defeated rival Army three times in 2014-15, including in the Patriot League Tournament.
