May 28, 2015 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Navy women's track and field freshman Ashanti Curry (Jacksonville, N.C.) placed 45th in the shot put on Thursday at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Florida.
"We are proud with how Ashanti performed on the big stage today," Navy head coach Carla Criste said. "We can not wait to see how she grows during her time at the Academy."
Curry finished 45th out of 47 athletes in the shot put with a mark of 44ft-4.75in (13.53m).
The freshman thrower edged Army West Point's Briyah Brown by 3.25 inches. Bucknell's Sophia Nnadi led all Patriot League throwers with a 37th place finish of 46ft-11.75in (14.32m).
Curry is the fourth thrower in the last two seasons to compete in the East Regional meet. Last season, Navy sent three discus throwers to the meet with Maressa Guynn leading the group with a 33rd place finish.
