Navy's 2015-16 Men's Basketball Schedule

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy head men's basketball coach Ed DeChellis has announced the program's 2015-16 schedule. Navy's 31-game schedule will feature 13 non-conference contests and 18 Patriot League games.

Navy men's and women's basketball season tickets will go on sale on September 8 on navysports.com.

Highlights of Navy's 2015-16 schedule include playing Army West Point at Madison Square Garden, hosting Florida in the Veterans Classic and playing Oregon in Hawai'i on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Navy will also play at the Palestra against Penn and will play three games at the Greensboro Coliseum over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Navy will host the second annual Veterans Classic on the opening night of the college basketball season on November 13. North Carolina will face Temple in the opening game at 7:00 PM and Navy will host Florida at 9:30 PM.

Florida was 16-17 (8-10 SEC) last season and will be under the direction of first-year head coach Mike White. The all-time series between Navy and Florida is even at 1-1 and the teams are meeting for the first time since the 1961-62 season. The Veterans Classic doubleheader will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

Navy will host the College of Charleston (9-24, 3-15 CAA) on Monday, November 16 at Alumni Hall. The two programs will be meeting for the first time .

Navy will face another first-time opponent in USC Upstate (24-12, 8-6 Atlantic Sun). The Mids and the Spartans will meet twice during the non-conference slate, first in Spartanburg, South Carolina on November 19 and later in Annapolis on December 14. USC Upstate fell to North Florida in the Atlantic Sun Championship game last season and played in the postseason CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

For the second time in three years Navy will host Division III Goucher (4-21, 3-13 Landmark) on November 22. The Mids posted a 98-47 win over Goucher in 2013-14. The Goucher game is a part of the Spartan Showcase.

Navy will renew a local rivalry by playing at UMBC (4-26, 2-14 America East) on November 25. Navy and UMBC split two games during the 2013-14 season and Navy leads the all-time series, 9-5.

The Mids will play three games in the inaugural Spartan Showcase at the Greensboro Coliseum from November 27-29 against UNCG, Jacksonville and IPFW.

UNCG (11-22, 6-12 Southern), formally known as UNC Greensboro, will serve as the host of the Spartan Showcase and will face Navy on the opening day on November 27. UNCG leads the all-time series 2-0. The Spartans won back-to-back games in 1992-93 and 1993-94.

Navy will seek its first win against Jacksonville (10-22, 4-10 Atlantic Sun), as the Dolphins won both of the prior games in the series in 1987-88 and 1990-91. Navy and Jacksonville will meet on November 28.

Navy will play IPFW (16-15, 9-7 Summit) on the final day of the Spartan Showcase on November 29. The two teams split a pair of games during the 2012-13 season in their only previous meetings. Like USC Upstate, IPFW played in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament last season.

Navy will play at Penn (9-19, 4-10 Ivy) in the Palestra, an historic college basketball arena, on December 2. Navy and Penn will be meeting for the 83rd time in program history. Only Army West Point has faced Navy more times than Penn. Penn leads the series with Navy, 58-24.

On the 74th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Navy will play Oregon (26-10, 13-5 Pacific 12) in a doubleheader in Bloch Arena, located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawai'i. Oklahoma will play Villanova at 2:00 PM local time (7:00 PM ET) and the Navy-Oregon contest will follow at 4:45 PM local time (9:45 PM ET). Both games will be televised on Fox Sports 1.

Oregon defeated Oklahoma State in the NCAA Tournament Second Round last season before falling to Wisconsin in the third round. This will be Navy's fourth trip to Hawai'i and first since the 2001-02 season.

Navy will see a familiar face when the team plays at VMI (11-19, 7-11 Southern) on December 12. VMI's first-year head coach Dan Earl was the associate head coach under DeChellis at Navy for the past four seasons. Navy posted an 84-66 win over VMI in Annapolis last season to take a 22-1 lead in the all-time series.

Two days after the VMI contest, Navy will face USC Upstate for the second time during the non-conference season on December 14 in Annapolis.

Navy will wrap up its 13-game non-conference slate against Furman (11-22, 5-13 Southern) at home on December 22. Furman defeated Navy in the only previous meeting in the series in 1976-77.

The Mids will open their 25th season as a member of the Patriot League on December 30 at Bucknell (19-15, 13-5 PL). Navy will host Bucknell in the regular season finale on February 27. Bucknell swept Navy last season to take a 36-35 lead in the overall series.

Bucknell won the Patriot League Regular Season title in 2014-15 and played in the National Invitation Tournament. Former coach Dave Paulsen left for the head job at George Mason and he was replaced by former Navy assistant and Randolph-Macon head coach Nathan Davis.

Navy's Patriot League home opener will be against Holy Cross (14-16, 8-10 PL) on January 2 and the teams will play in Worcester, Massachusetts on January 30. Each team won on its home court last season. Bill Carmody, who coached at Northwestern for 13 seasons, enters his first year at Holy Cross.

Navy will play at Boston U. (13-17, 9-9 PL) on January 6 and the Terriers will return to Annapolis on February 3. Navy is seeking its first win against Boston U. since the school joined the conference prior to the 2013-14 season.

Following the game at Boston, Navy will play at Colgate (16-17, 12-6 PL) in Hamilton, N.Y. on January 9. Colgate will play in Annapolis on February 6. Each team rallied from double-digit deficits to win on the other's home court last season during the regular season. The second-seeded Raiders defeated seventh-seeded Navy in the Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Mids will host Loyola (11-19, 7-11 PL) on January 13 and will make the short trek to Baltimore on February 10. Navy swept the season series with Loyola last year to extend its all-time lead against the Greyhounds to 22-6.

Navy will host 2015 Patriot League Tournament Champion Lafayette (20-13, 9-9 PL) on January 16 and will play at Lafayette on February 13. The Mids and the Leopards split the season series in 2014-15. Lafayette was the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament but knocked off Boston U., Bucknell and then American to earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Navy will play at Lehigh (16-14, 10-8 PL) on January 20 and the Mountain Hawks will come to Annapolis on February 17. Navy will seek its first win against Lehigh since the 2009-10 season.

A highlight of Navy's 2015-16 season will be playing Army West Point (15-15, 6-12 PL) at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday, January 23. The game will be a doubleheader along with an Army-Navy women's contest. The game at Madison Square Garden will be this season's Army-Navy "Star Game."

Navy has played six games at Madison Square Garden, including four NCAA Tournament games and one National Invitation Tournament contest. Navy last played at Madison Square Garden during the 1971-72 season against Manhattan.

Navy defeated Army West Point three times last season, sweeping the regular season series and also beating the Black Knights in the Patriot League Tournament First Round. It was the fifth time in program history that Navy beat Army three times in a season. Navy leads the all-time series, 76-47.

Navy will host Army West Point in Annapolis on Saturday, February 20.

Navy will host American (17-16, 8-10 PL) on January 27 and the Mids will play the Eagles in Washington, D.C. on February 24. Each team won on its home court in 2014-15.

The 2016 Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament will begin with the first round on March 1. The quarterfinals will be March 3 and the semifinals will be March 6. The tournament final will be played March 9. All games will be played on the campus site of the highest seed.
