BALTIMORE, Md. - Loyola's Brian Saramago scored the game-winning goal in overtime on a penalty kick to give the Greyhounds (4-5-0, 2-0-0 PL) a 2-1 win over visiting Navy (2-5-2, 0-2-0 PL) in a Patriot League men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at a rainy Ridley Athletic Complex.

A Navy defender was whistled for a foul in Navy's defensive penalty box in overtime in the 93rd minute. Saramago took the ensuing penalty kick and shot to right side of the goal past a diving Navy goalkeeper Mac Burke to end the game.

"It was a very disappointing loss," said Navy head coach Tim O'Donohue. "We played good for stretches today, but we made some mistakes that cost us. We have been playing teams even and our guys are playing as hard as they, but we but we can't seem to catch a break."

Navy senior Sam Bascom tallied Navy's lone goal in the 26th minute of the contest.

In the 25th minute, Navy freshman Diego Manrique pressured a Loyola player on Loyola's defensive endline and earned a Navy corner kick as the ball went out of bounds. Bascom served the ensuing corner kick into the penalty box and the referee called a foul on a Loyola player pulling down freshman Andrew Hopkins, which awarded a penalty kick to Navy.

Bascom buried the penalty kick to put the Mids ahead, 1-0, with his first goal of the season. It was Bascom's fifth career goal and he is Navy's active career points leader with 18.

Junior Mark Shiiba set up freshman Piroz Bahar for a shot in the 33rd minute, but Loyola goalkeeper Matt Sanchez made the save.

Burke made a leaping save on an A. Mickey Watson header in the 41st minute to keep the score at 1-0.

Loyola evened the game at 1-1 in the 46th minute, just after halftime. After a Navy giveaway deep in its own end, Loyola's Barry Sharifi sent a pass to Gabriel Carlsson, who finished from 26 yards out.

Loyola nearly took a lead in the 53rd minute but Burke made a great save on a point-blank shot from 12 yards out from Brian Saramago.

Navy senior Daniel Camuti put a header on target in the 77th minute, but Sanchez made the save and the game would go in to overtime at 1-1.

It took Loyola just 2:35 into overtime to get the game-winning goal.

Loyola outshot Navy in the contest, 15-7, and held a 10-2 shot advantage in the second half. Saramago was credited with eight shots in the game.

Burke made five saves in the game for Navy, while Sanchez made four for Loyola.

Navy will next play at Lehigh on Wednesday.
