Nov. 16, 2016 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The 14th-ranked Navy squash team (7-1) suffered its first setback of the season, dropping a 7-2 decision to #9 Drexel (2-0) Wednesday evening at the Kline & Specter Squash Center in Philadelphia.
Freshman Michael Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.) is the lone player on the Navy roster to boast an 8-0 record after scoring a 3-1 victory over former Navy squash player Joshua Hughes. Hughes, who left the Academy a year ago, won the opening game, 12-10, but Kacergis fought back to win three in a row (11-4, 11-9, 11-6) to secure the victory.
Team captain Randy Beck (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) improved to 7-0 on the year following a 3-1 win against junior Cillian Dunne. Beck won the opening game, 12-10, before Dunne pulled even with an 11-8 game two victory. Beck pulled away for the win with back-to-back 11-8 wins in the third and fourth. Beck's win marked the 54th of his career which is tied as the 21st-most victories under 17th-year head coach Craig Dawson.
Seniors Will Walker (Scarborough, N.Y.) and Reed Whitney (Ladue, Mo.) both won a game against their respective opponents, but both would fall in four games.
The Midshipmen will return to action on Friday when they play host to MIT (7:00 pm) in the first of five matches in round robin action over the weekend.
