ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior distance runners Meghan Harvey (Nottingham, Pa.) and Morgan O'Connor (Sammamish, Wash.) record Navy's two ECAC-qualifying performances at the Sweetheart Multi-Mix Meet on Thursday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House.
"We were worried that our athletes wouldn't have performed well after a tough loss to Army on Saturday, but the athletes responded well," Navy head coach Carla Criste said. "We saw performances in a positive trajectory at the meet and hope to see the results carry over into the league championship next weekend."
Harvey and O'Connor shined the brightest at Thursday's meet with impressive career bests in their respective events. Harvey opened up with an ECAC-qualifying mile time of 4:57.94, which shaved off 19 seconds from her previous best. O'Connor, who previously ran a 17:32.97 in the 5,000-meter run, followed up with a first-place ECAC-qualifying 5,000m run mark of 17:19.49.
Harvey's mile time moved her to fifth amongst Patriot League runners. O'Connor, who sat seventh in the league before Thursday's meet, improved her standing to third amongst conference athletes in the 5,000-meter run.
Sophomore Elizabeth Pecsok (Hillsboro, Ore.) competed in her first pentathlon this season, recorded 2869 points for first place. She improved her career best by 351 points and sits ninth in the Patriot League.
Navy shot putters Eileen Brady (Donegal, Pa.) and Audrey Brandon (Lima, Ohio) finished 1-2 with marks of 38ft-9in (11.81m) and 37ft-10.5in (11.54m), respectively. Brandon recorded a career-best mark by 3ft-4.5in.
Sophomore Alyssa Chang placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 9.23. Chang shaved off 0.12 seconds of her previous-best time.
Navy will have six athletes competing at this weekend's Spire Invitational in Geneva, Ohio . The group of Navy athletes includes Hali McFadgen (long jump/60-meter hurdles), Crystan McLymore (triple jump), Charlene Kearns (pole vault), Claire Chandler (pole vault), Margaret Ruud (pole vault) and Rosemary Brinegar (pole vault).
