Feb. 28, 2016 FAIRFAX, Va. - Freshman Claire Chandler (San Diego, Calif.) recorded a qualifying mark in the pole vault to compete at next weekend's ECAC Championship at George Mason's Last Chance Meet on Sunday in Fairfax, Virginia.
"Proud to see one of our freshman not only compete well but have a chance to extend her indoor season for one more weekend to improve," Navy head coach Carla Criste said.
Chandler finished seventh with her first career ECAC-qualifying mark at 11ft-9.75in (3.60m). Classmate Rosemary Brinegar (Coppell, Texas) and sophomore Maggie Ruud (Fairfax Station, Va.) fell short of hitting the qualifying mark, finishing 11th and 13th, respectively, at 10ft-10in (3.30m).
Freshman Izzy Marini (Elkgrove, Calif.) placed first in the weight throw with a mark of 52ft-0in (15.87m). Marini however did not hit the qualifying mark of 52ft-6in (16.00m) for next weekend's ECAC Championship.
Navy will prepare this week for the three-day ECAC Championship, which begins on Friday at 3 p.m. The meet is hosted by Boston University at the Track and Tennis Center.
