ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The third-seeded Navy women's tennis team (19-9) posted a 4-0 win over No. 6 Loyola (13-8) in the Patriot League Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at the indoor Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex.
Navy advances to the semifinals on Saturday at 12 noon and will face No. 2 Army West Point.
Navy made quick work of the doubles point on Friday, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to clinch the first point of the match.
Freshman Carlee Conway and sophomore Kristine Rojo defeated Loyola's Megan Hahn and Julie Clark at the No. 3 position, 6-1. Sophomore Amanda Keller and sophomore Claudia Mackenzie then clinched the point with a 6-1 win over Amanda Lanciano and Ania Krawiec at No. 1 doubles.
Additionally, Navy junior Rozel Hernandez and freshman Catalina Rico were leading Emily Hughes and Haleigh Morgus at No. 2 doubles, 4-2, but the match went unfinished once Navy had clinched the doubles point.
Navy posted three dominant singles wins at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 slots.
Mackenzie was the first Mid to finish her singles match as she breezed past Hughes at the No. 3 line, 6-0, 6-0. Keller then pushed Navy's lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Hahn at No. 1 singles.
Freshman Josie Rogers clinched the team win with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nicole Eberle at No. 6 singles.
The three other singles matches were left unfinished as the match was already clinched. Conway was leading Clark in the second set at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 2-0.
Keller and Rogers both won their 23rd singles match of the season. Keller improves to 23-15 and Rogers is 23-5.
Navy improves to 8-0 in the all-time series against Loyola and is 10-6 all-time in Patriot League Tournament matches.
"I was pretty pleased with the way we came out," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "We came out really fast in the doubles and we really went after them. Then the same thing happened in singles. We had a really tight match with Loyola in the regular season and today we came out and played hard."
The Patriot League Tournament will continue on Saturday with the semifinal matches at 9:00 AM and 12 noon.
All matches will be played at the outdoor Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium or the indoor Tose Family Tennis Center with inclement weather. Both facilities are at the Brigade Sports Complex at 64 Greenbury Point Road in Annapolis. Admission will be free for all matches and the facility is open to the public.
