John Campbell Named NAAA Athlete of the Week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After recording three top-three performances at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Navy men's track and field sophomore John Campbell (Amarillo, Texas) was named the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week, presented by Rolls-Royce.

Campbell was Navy's top overall thrower at the league championship, recording three top-three finishes for 24 team points. The sophomore thrower won the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 201ft-9in (61.50m) on Day one. Campbell then tallied a runner-up finish in the discus with a throw of 170ft-2in (51.87m) He capped off the weekend with a third-place throw in the shot put at 53ft-9.25in (16.39m).

Campbell, an Amarillo, Texas, native became the ninth Midshipmen in program history to earn the league's Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet honor after his two all-league finishes and a third-place performance.

Campbell's league championship hammer throw placed him 53rd in the East Region, which is just 1ft-9in short of the Top-48 ranking to qualify for the NCAA East Regional. He currently sits 28th in the discus event with a mark of 179ft-10in (54.81m) and is 61st in the shot put at 55ft-6.5in (16.93m).

Campbell along with 21 of his Navy teammates will compete in the IC4A Championship, hosted by Princeton, in Princeton, New Jersey this weekend. The three-day meet begins on Friday at Weaver Track and Field Stadium.
