ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's soccer team will open the 2016 season at the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic this weekend at the College of Charleston. Navy will play host College of Charleston on Friday at 7:30 PM and will face Furman in a neutral-site game on Sunday at 12 noon. There will not be any live video for Navy's two games this weekend but live statistics will be available.

Tim O'Donohue enters his first season as Navy's head coach in 2016. O'Donohue was the associate head coach at UConn from 2011 to 2015 and was the head coach at Division III Stevens from 2001 to 2010. While at Stevens, O'Donohue amassed a 165-21-23 record and his winning percentage of .844 is the highest in Division III history and the fourth-highest across all divisions. O'Donohue took Stevens to nine NCAA Tournaments in his 10 seasons at the school.

Navy was 8-9-1 in 2015 and tied for fifth place in the Patriot League at 4-5-0. Navy returns three former All-Patriot League performers in senior Sam Bascom, senior Daniel Camuti and junior Brock Dudley. Bascom and Dudley were named to the All-Patriot League Second Team in 2015 and Camuti, this year's team captain, was named to the third team in 2014.

Junior Aubrey Jones is Navy's leading returning goal-scorer. Jones scored four goals in 2015. Junior Daniel Zaremba tallied eight points last season on three goals and two assists. Thomas Moore returns on the backline after starting 17 games as a central defender last year.

Junior Mac Burke will be Navy's starting goalkeeper. Burke has appeared in 343 minutes over seven career games and has a goals-against average of 1.05.

Navy welcomes in nine newcomers in freshmen Piroz Bahar, Jack Daunt, Hunter Holstad, Andrew Hopkins, Hein Htet MacArthur, Diego Manrique, Jared McCullough, Ben Nicholas and Ethan Singer.

Navy fell to No. 4 Maryland, 1-0, in its only exhibition match of the preseason.

The Navy men's soccer team has been voted fifth in the 2016 Patriot League preseason poll. The Mids return six starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's team.

Navy has the most overall wins of any team in the Patriot League over the last three seasons (2013-15) with 35. American has 32 wins over that period, while Bucknell and Boston each have 30.

Navy is beginning its 96th season of varsity soccer and the Mids have an all-time record of 666-400-143 (.610). The 666 wins are the 14th-most in NCAA history.

Navy is 1-2-1 all-time against the College of Charleston and the teams are meeting for the first time since the Mids posted a 4-2 victory in Charleston in 1998.

Charleston was 7-8-2 overall last season and 4-3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Cougars defeated No. 24 South Carolina, 2-0, in a preseason exhibition match last week. Senior forward Nico Rittmeyer scored both goals for Charleston. Ralph Lundy enters his 30th season as College of Charleston's head coach in 2016.

This will be the first meeting between Navy and Furman. Furman was 8-5-6 overall last season and 6-2-3 in the Southern Conference. Furman placed third in the Southern last year and beat East Tennessee State in the conference championship game. Furman played even with South Carolina through 110 minutes in the NCAA First Round, but the Gamecocks advanced in a penalty kick shootout. Furman played No. 5 Wake Forest to a 0-0 draw in an exhibition match earlier this preseason.

Navy's home opener will be Friday, Sept. 2 against Northern Illinois at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
