Navy's 2016-17 Men's Basketball Schedule

ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€" Navy men's basketball head coach Ed DeChellis has announced the program's 2016-17 schedule. Navy's 30-game schedule will feature 12 non-conference contests and 18 Patriot League games. In non-conference play, Navy will play six home games, four road games and two neutral-site games. The Patriot League schedule is split into nine home games and nine away games against each of the nine other conference members.

Navy men's and women's basketball season tickets will go on sale on September 12 on navysports.com. Veterans Classic tickets are already on sale.

Navy will host the third annual Veterans Classic in Alumni Hall on Veterans Day (November 11). Navy will host Big Ten-member Ohio State (21-14, 11-7 Big Ten) at 9:00 PM following the Marquette (20-13, 8-10 Big East) versus Vanderbilt (19-14, 11-7 SEC) game at 6:30 PM.

Ohio State advanced to the second round of the National Invitation Tournament last season. Navy is 1-0 all-time against Ohio State, having defeated the Buckeyes, 35-32, in Annapolis on Feb. 6, 1932. Vanderbilt was a member of the NCAA Tournament First Four in 2015-16.

Navy will play its second home game of the opening weekend on Sunday, November 13 against Division III Washington College (Md.) (3-22, 1-17 Centennial). Former Navy assistant coach Aaron Goodman is in his second season as the head coach at Washington. Navy is 11-2 all-time against Washington and last faced the Shoremen during the 2006-07 season.

The Mids will travel to High Point, North Carolina for three games in the HPU Tournament from November 18-20. The Mids will open the tournament by facing North Dakota State (20-13, 8-8 Summit) on Friday. Navy and North Dakota State are meeting for the first time and it will be Navy's first ever game against a school from the state of North Dakota.

The Mids will play host High Point (21-11, 13-5 Big South) on Saturday in its only true road game of the month of November. The Panthers qualified for the NIT last season and the two schools will be meeting for the first time.

Navy will close the tournament by facing UNCG (15-19, 10-8 Southern) on Sunday. The Mids defeated the Spartans, 70-66, at the Spartan Showcase last season to cut UNCG's series lead to 2-1. The Spartans advanced to the CBI Quarterfinals last season.

Navy will continue a local rivalry with UMBC (7-25, 3-13 America East) on November 23 in Annapolis. Navy leads the all-time series against UMBC, 10-5, and the Mids beat the Retrievers in Baltimore last season, 75-54.

The Mids will host Penn (11-17, 5-9 Ivy) on Saturday, Nov. 26. Navy has won three of the last four contests against Penn, but the Quakers lead the all-time series, 58-25. Navy won at Penn last season, 65-59.

Navy will next embark on a two-stop road trip to South Carolina. The Mids will play at the College of Charleston (17-14, 8-10 CAA) on Thursday, December 1 before playing at Furman (19-16, 11-7 Southern) on Saturday, December 3. Charleston is 1-0 all-time against Navy, beating the Mids, 72-58, in Annapolis last season. The Navy-Furman series is even at 1-1 after the Mids defeated the Paladins last season, 62-49. Furman advanced to the second round of the 2016 CollegeInsider.com Tournament last year.

Navy will host Bryant (8-23, 5-13 Northeast) on Tuesday, December 6. The all-time series against Navy and Bryant is even at 1-1. The Mids will then host Columbia (25-10, 10-4 Ivy) three days later on Friday, December 9. Columbia won the 2016 CollegeInsider.com Tournament and the Lions lead the all-time series against Navy, 19-16. The two schools last met in the 2004-05 season.

Navy's final non-conference game of the season will be at Hartford (10-23, 4-12 America East) on Thursday, December 22. Navy and Hartford are meeting for the first time in series history.

Navy will open Patriot League play at home against Bucknell (17-14, 14-4) on December 30 and will close the regular season at Bucknell on Feb. 25. Bucknell was the Patriot League Regular Season champion last season and played in the NIT. Bucknell swept the season series against Navy last year.

The Mids will play at 2016 Patriot League Tournament champion and NCAA Tournament participant Holy Cross (15-20, 5-13) on Jan. 2. The Crusaders will play in Annapolis on Jan. 28. Holy Cross won the league tournament as the No. 9 seed last year and also won an NCAA First Four game over Southern.

Navy will host Boston University (19-15, 11-7) on January 5 and will play at Boston on February 2. The Terriers advanced to the second round of the 2016 CollegeInsider.com Tournament. Navy and Boston U. each won on the other team's home court last season in a series split.

The Mids will host Colgate (13-17, 9-9) on January 8 and will play in Hamilton, N.Y. on February 4. Navy defeated Colgate in overtime in Hamilton last season, but the Mids dropped the rematch in Annapolis.

Navy will look to continue its winning ways against Loyola (9-21, 8-10) when the teams meet in Baltimore on January 11 and in Annapolis on February 8. Navy swept the season series against Loyola for the second straight year in 2015-16.

Navy also carries a winning streak against Lafayette (6-24, 3-15). The Mids defeated Lafayette three times last season, sweeping the regular season series and posting a 78-70 victory in the Patriot League Tournament First Round. Navy will play at Lafayette on January 14 and will host the Leopards on February 11.

Navy will host Lehigh (17-15, 13-5) on January 18 and will play the Mountain Hawks in Bethlehem on February 15. Each team won on the other team's home court last year and Lehigh beat Navy, 65-63, in the Patriot League Quarterfinals. Lehigh lost to Holy Cross in the Patriot League Championship as the No. 2 seed.

The first Army-Navy game of the season will be at West Point on January 21 and the 2017 Army-Navy Star Game will be played in Annapolis on February 18. Navy defeated Army West Point (19-14, 9-9) in the 2016 Star Game, 64-50, but dropped a double-overtime game in the second meeting of the regular season. Navy has won three straight Star Games against Army. Army will be led by first-year head coach Jimmy Allen, a former Navy assistant coach.

Navy will finish the first round of conference play at American (12-19, 9-9) on January 25 and the Mids will host the Eagles on February 22. American swept Navy in the regular season last year.

The 2016 Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament will begin with the first round on February 28. The quarterfinals will be March 2 and the semifinals will be March 5. The tournament final will be played March 8. All games will be played on the campus site of the highest seed.
