ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€"â€" A blistering fast start by the Navy women's basketball team launched the Mids to a 30-point halftime lead and an eventual 77-51 victory over Loyola Wednesday night at Alumni Hall in Annapolis. The win was the fourth in a row for Navy (11-5, 4-1 Patriot League) while the loss for Loyola (7-9, 3-2) ended the three-game winning streak for the Greyhounds.

"I'm really happy for our players," said Navy head coach Stefanie Pemper. "It is really paying off. Their focus and work, work inside of practice and work outside of practice; it is paying off. We hope to continue that."

Justice Swett (Sr., Nashville, Tenn.) scored a jumper on Navy's opening possession of the game, with Sarita Condie (Sr., Lovelock, Nev.) following with a three-point basket on the ensuing trip down the court for the Mids. Loyola's Carly Monzo connected on a three-point shot 27 seconds later, but that would be the only field goal made by the Greyhounds in the entire first frame. Navy scored 20 of the remaining 22 points of the stanza â€"â€" including the final 15 â€"â€" to jump out to a 25-5 advantage through 10 minutes of play.

Navy ended the first quarter 5-6 (83.3%) from three-point land and 10-13 (76.9%) from the floor overall, while limiting Loyola to 1-12 (8.3%) shooting.

"We do have nice chemistry and that starting five is unselfish," said Pemper. "Defensively we were really locked in too.

"Our team was really focused (at the start). Brigade Spirit Nights are games we enjoy. I loved our focus."

"It was just a good team effort," said Hannah Fenske (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) on Navy's strong start. "We got each other open looks and were knocking down the open shots. Once the first one fell, we had the confidence with the rest of them."

The Greyhounds would tally the opening basket â€"â€" a three-pointer â€"â€" of the second quarter, but the Mids scored the next 17 points to jump out to a 42-8 advantage with 4:14 still on the clock before halftime. Navy would go into the locker rooms at intermission with a 48-18 advantage.

Navy drained 9-14 (64.3%) three-point attempts in the first half and was 19-31 (61.35) from the field in all. On the other end of the court, Loyola did not make a two-point shot in the first half (0-15) and was 5-10 (50%) from three-point range for an overall mark of 20 percent (5-25).

Tonight's 48-point first half follows on the heels of the 2015-16 season when the Mids failed to score more than 45 points in any of the three games they played against the Greyhounds.

"We talked about it," said Fenske on last year's scoring struggles. "But we're a different team this year."

Additionally, the 48 points and the 30-point halftime lead were the most, respectively, by a Navy team that was coached by Pemper, and ranks second in both statistical categories for a Navy team in a Patriot League regular season game.

Loyola outscored Navy 17-12 in the third quarter (60-35 overall), but the Mids edged the Greyhounds, 17-16, in the fourth quarter. Navy's lead never dipped below 23 points in the third quarter and the margin stayed at least 21 points in the final quarter.

Navy ended the game shooting 46.6 percent (27-58) from the field, which included an 11-20 (55.5%) effort from three-point land. Defensively, the Mids held Loyola to a 29.8-percent (17-57) shooting night, which featured an 8-24 (33.3%) showing from three-point range. The Greyhounds were 9-33 (27.3%) in their two-point shooting in the game.

"Our shooting (was impressive)," said Pemper. "It is not often we shoot 55 percent from three. But defensively, we've been giving up 64 points a game, so it was nice to helped them to 51.

"We've always said our defense keeps us in games. But in the past, sometimes our offense keeps other teams in games too. If we are making shots, we are a good team.

The Mids also held a 46-33 advantage in rebounds, which included a 13-9 edge in offensive boards.

Individually, no Navy starter played more than 24 minutes in the game and the starters as a whole totaled just 108 of the 200 total minutes. Also, three Mids scored in double figures, three grabbed at least six rebounds and four had multiple assists.

Condie scored 11 first half points and 11 fourth quarter points to tie her career high of 22 in a game. She was 8-11 from the field and made all three of her three-point attempts.

"I think our chemistry is really good right now," said Condie. "We're not realty settling; we're continuing to improve and become closer as a team.

"I think all of us are really capable scorers. Anyone can step up at any given time. We've seen that all year. It just happened to be me in the fourth quarter."

Joining her in double figures was Taylor Dunham (Jr., Fort Belvoir, Va.) with 12 â€"â€" she also had a trio of triples â€"â€" and Fenske with 10. Fenske also dished out a career-high seven assists while snaring six rebounds. Swett snared six offensive boards and 10 caroms in all, with Kaila Clark (Fr., Hughesville, Md.) totaling six points, four rebounds and three blocks.

Bri Betz-White scored 11 points to lead the Loyola offense.

Navy will be back in Alumni Hall Saturday night when the Mids play host to Lafayette at 7 p.m.
