Jan. 12, 2017 ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€"â€" Women's basketball player Ashanti Kennedy (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) has been tabbed as the Navy Athlete of the Week for the Jan. 3-9 time period.
Kennedy helped lead the Mids to a pair of road victories last week. She connected on 52.2 percent (12-23) of her field goal attempts on the way to scoring a team-best 31 points in Navy's wins over Boston U. (62-59) on Friday and Colgate (80-67) on Sunday.
Kennedy opened the road trip by totaling a season-best 19 points in the game against the Terriers. That tally left her two points shy of tying her career high, and came after she had accrued 18 points in the three prior games.
Two days later she contributed a 12-point, 4-rebound, 2-assist effort against the Raiders. Kennedy accounted for nine-straight Navy points during one third quarter stretch.
She continued her strong play in Navy's 77-51 victory over Loyola Wednesday night. Kennedy totaled nine points, four rebounds and a season-high tying four assists in the game.
Navy, 4-1 in Patriot League play, will be back in Alumni Hall Saturday when the Mids play host to Lafayette at 7 p.m.
